How do I navigate this?

Posted Wednesday March 27 2019, 10:45 pm

Hey, so I'm gonna keep this short. Basically, I'm a first-gen college student and first-gen American. My mom doesn't make a bunch of money. I'm basically going to college thanks to the grace of a higher power and an academic scholarship. I had no college fund set up for me whatsoever growing up, so I'm at a college minutes from home and am living at home. A college fund left for me by my deceased aunt got screwed up by her husband, and I will never see that money. My dad's a deadbeat, who doesn't contribute much. My mom keeps taking a cut of my scholarship earnings every time it gets dispersed, even though I am unemployed; I'm currently stressing about finances as we speak since I live off about 1 grand for months. My family has done nothi...

Not sure what to do about my dad!!?

Posted Monday March 25 2019, 9:16 pm

So I am starting to notice a pattern in my dad that is concerning me ... a lot!

Besides the fact that he is not that old (just turned 56) and has a deteriorating physical condition (big belly and weak heart muscle) he refuses to exercise and become healthier. The doctors have already told him he will be in big trouble if he doesn’t start getting his heart back in shape but he just won’t do it. OK.

I get that I can’t do anything about that and it’s his life. He is the only one who can change and only if he wants to.

But aside from all this, I am starting to notice that he is becoming increasingly obsessive with the news and politics and religion... to a point that is unhealthy almost. ...

husband, baby, Nursing school..

Posted Saturday March 16 2019, 8:05 pm

I'm struggling, last year i failed a class because i was too overwhelmed, i worked nights, i was breastfeeding, pumping and going to school full time.. my husband dropped the ball when he failed his test for work and got super depressed about it. I feel bad that he was depressed about it, but I too was also going through something. I need to get schooling done. Now that I have a second chance, I dropped down hours at work, I'm not with my family as much and study when I can. My husband still manages to not understand what I'm doing. I guess I shouldnt study at home, but sometimes it's what I have to do. what do I do? how do I make him realize that watching the baby is something he will have to really do when I'm trying to study. I cannot study at night.

How can I get low income housing? I dont feel safe in my area.

Posted Wednesday January 30 2019, 9:48 pm

Hi I'm a 25 year old woman still living with my mom. I really want to move out but I don't think I can support myself right now. I work full time as a Clinical Lab assistant and I'm currently in school. Things are starting to get really bad at home in my area. I live with my parents and I'm paying half of the bills. There's a lot of drama and threats going on with my extended family & others. I don't feel safe with people threatening to harm me. I also take uber to school/work. How can I get some kind of help?

I don't qualify for University dorm. I'm looking for housing in the city that I go to school in. Its not the same city I live in. I'd be safer if I was out of the my city. I dont know if I qualify for housing though and I think it takes a long time

Dad issues

Posted Tuesday January 29 2019, 10:20 pm

I’m 16 and my dad has always been my idol. My mom went on vacation for a month with my sister (12 years) and my dad misses them but he doesn’t want them to come back. He asked my mom to come a week early but my mom said I because my grandma recently died. My dad decided to extend her ticket to two extra months. He said that since she loves her family so much she doesn’t love me anymore ( which I don’t believe) and that’s why she is staying extra long. I told him that my sister will be missing a ton of school but he’s not listening. When I confronted him he said he’s just joking but when I told my mom to screenshot what he said, he said that she can go find another man to live with and love because I can’t live with you anymore. I don’t know what to do

I lied to my parents and they found out!

Posted Thursday January 24 2019, 1:54 pm

I didn’t feel good at all today and i wanted my dad to come pick me up. He told me to go to the nurse and get my temperature checked first and i lied to him and told Him that I did, which i didn’t. When I walked to the office he asked me so you’re telling me that you went to the nurse and your temp was 100 degrees” i tried to cover up my lie but then the office assistant called the nurse and she said that she saw nobody that day. I knew immediately that i was busted and burst into tears. I felt so guilty and scared for the consequences. He told me in the car to never lie to him again which i immediately agreed with considering how scared i was. He dropped me off at home and headed back to work. I’m extremely anxious for my...

Birthday Trouble

Posted Tuesday January 8 2019, 5:57 am

I am going to be turning twenty-six on March 16. For my birthday, I have an entire weekend of activities planned for my birthday. Anyway, I used my Christmas money to buy tickets for Justin Timberlake’s Man of the Woods Concert at Oracle Arena in Oakland on Friday, March 15 at 7:30 PM. However, m parents do not want me to attend the concert because my birthday is the next day and I am going to be meeting up with some friends of mine in Monterey and San Jose the next day. Despite this, I would still like to attend the concert. I gave eye xtra tickets to a couple friends of mine so we can all go to the concert together, but now I may have to sell my ticket to my friend’s parents. Another reason why my parents do not want me to attend the ...

My boyfriend’s family does not want him to date me because I am not Muslim

Posted Saturday January 5 2019, 12:54 am

We are in our 20s and don’t know what to do. The only option given to me is for me to convert to being muslim. It sucks because he does not want to let down his parents and wants his parents to accept me. If they find out he is still speaking to me, they would arrange a marriage for him and force him to marry whomever they choose. They even told him if I decide to convert my whole family basically would have to do the same or do whatever is “halal” like his family. Which I think is nonsense cause my family would never do such a thing. I really feel like his parents just don’t want him with me...There has to be another way to get through this. Yes, conversion is a big step to take in my life but I really do love him and can picture a...

How to get my dad to stop treating us like little kids?

Posted Wednesday January 2 2019, 7:43 am

I’m 20 years old my siblings are 18 and 15, my dad keeps treating us like little kids. For example he will talk to us in third person he’ll literally say “your dad isn’t feeling well today” as if we don’t know who he is. I’ve told him multiple times to stop talking in third person but he doesn’t listen. Whenever we want to go out or do something he’ll say “I’ve seen more days than you guys you’ve never been exposed to what the world really is” however how are we supposed to know if we can’t go out?. He’s not strict but there’s days where all of a sudden his strict parenting style comes out where he’ll force us to do chores and if we don’t listen he acts like a dictator. (2 years ago he actually slapped me...

I screwed up royally & could use some advice!

Posted Sunday December 30 2018, 8:55 am

I'm a sixteen year old high school girl (I'll be 17 in a couple months). Some months back, I was responsible for a car accident that severely injured the driver of the car that I struck. The accident was a result of me texting while driving. I was lucky enough to walk away with a few bruises. The other driver had to be taken away in an ambulance. After the police completed their investigation, I was charged with vehicular assault.

I have a court date coming up where I'll be accepting a deal we worked out with the prosecutor. The upside is it'll allow me to be convicted as a juvenile. However, I'll also have to spend 90 days locked up in the county juvenile detention center.

I own the fact that what I did was st...

I am a woman married from last 10 years. This is the only relationship i have been into, till date. From past 4 years my husband shows no interest in physical intimacy. I have noticed him eyeing random guys and making eye contact with guys on several occassions. He has never had romantic eye contact with me till now, I dont know if it is normal, as I have never been in a relatiinship before. But it do makes me feel empty, as other guys do initiate eye contact with me which I think is powerful romantic gesture which I crave from my husband. I have never seen him checking out girls, like other guys do.

I have confronted him with these issues but he simply denies of being gay, saying this happens in all relationships. But I cant...

My mom is 65 years old and she can't barely walk and take care of herself. I had to usually travel Newark weekly and want some one to take care for her, a friend of mine suggested me with http://www.scottcounsel.com/ . Can someone suggest me is assisted living is what I need to hire or should I look for a nurse who will care for her.

What do you think of this deal I made w/ my parents?

Posted Thursday December 6 2018, 1:42 pm

I'm 15 and my parents have always been super protective of me. Maybe it's because I'm an only daughter in addition to being an only child. Who knows. I do know I was determined to get more freedom. Several months back, I came across something online about GPS watches. I did a little research and presented my parents with a proposal. If they got me one of these watches, I'd be willing to wear it in exchange for a later curfew. After sleeping on it, they agreed.

So for the past month or so, I've been wearing this watch. They've held up to their end of the deal. I'm finally able to stay out as late as all my friends. The only restriction I have is that they've programmed the watch to send them alerts if I'm late for school or tr...

I feel like my nana prefers my cousins over me.

Posted Sunday November 18 2018, 3:37 pm

I am an 18 year old girl. I feel like my nana prefers my cousins over me. I recently got a new job in my local council and a few months later my cousin who is the same age as me got a job in mcdonalds. My nana posted a facebook status congratulating him for getting a job but didn't do the same for me. Am I being selfish? Everytime I see my nana I feel like she prefers my cousins than me because she spends more time with them and never praises me for anything. I just feel like she hates me
