About Advicenators

I started my advice column in 1998. It was part of my cheesy geocities homepage and I asked people to e-mail me questions. To get them started and let them know what I was all about, I wrote some of the questions and answers myself. Everything was good. I didn't get many questions but I didn't mind; I was happy answering the ones I got and making up my own when I felt like I had advice for the world.

Time went on and my website moved to Spacefem.com. The site had been around for a while, so it actually got noticed by some search engines. I got more visitors, and a lot more questions, and soon I couldn't answer them all. More time went on, and I couldn't even answer most of them. Plus, I didn't even like some of the questions I was getting, and felt bad because I knew other people in the world wanted to have advice columns on the internet, and I was wasting questions.

I thought of giving other people columns on my site. They were e-mailing me offering to answer surplus questions. But then I got an idea: What if we all had advice columns, and they were automated, and every question got answered, and everyone who wanted a column would have questions?

So I started advicenators. I'd been hacking at the php forum on my site enough to know that learning PHP wouldn't kill me, so I made a website. I registered the domain on September 2, 2003 and opened the site on October 16, 2003.

Technical Information

Advicenators is hosted by Wired Hub because they rock. Advicenators was written and designed by me, Spacefem, using PHP. I used the kwrite text editor for Linux on the whole thing, because I like text editors that come with operating systems.
