Should I quit my job?

Posted Saturday January 24 2015, 11:00 pm

Back in October I got my very first job at party city (i'm 17 almost 18) At the time they were just hiring seasonal workers for Halloween. After Halloween they got rid of all the seasonal workers except for me. It was super cool that they decided to keep me. But now since I have been working there for about 4 months i'm getting really stressed about dealing with my personal life and trying to deal with school (I do online schooling) I only work like 2 times a week at most but I honestly dread going to work. My boss and co-workers are super nice to me so it has nothing to do with them. My mom and dad don't think I should quit just because they think ill never get a nice boss like the one that I have, which I think is untrue because I have my...

Is it a good idea or a bad idea in America to become a Nurse?

Posted Tuesday January 6 2015, 8:17 pm

I'm 20 years old and female. I really want to go to college starting this year to become a Nurse or Nurse Practitioner so I'd either be getting a Bachelors or Masters of Science in Nursing.

To me it seems like Nurses are always needed, they get paid quite a bit more than the average salary and much more than somebody who was working somewhere who didn't have a college degree would earn. I'm a healthy, strong, intelligent, social butterfly and I have already taken two medical college courses in the past that I really enjoyed so it seems like a good career choice. I also love children and want to give back to the community and being petite I think I'd be a perfect pediatric nurse.

However my Mother who's a Medica...

Should I ask to switch supervisors or wait a while?

Posted Saturday January 3 2015, 9:35 am

I work in sales as a telemarketer. I sell insurance to people over the phone when they activate their credit card. When I first started I wasn’t doing very well and had low sales. I finally memorized the selling pitch and reached the percentage goal my supervisor set for me. At work, I have to meet with my supervisor once a week. Recently, they switched my supervisor. My old supervisor was strict but encouraging. The new one is very critical. He constantly pressures me to make sales. In the days that my sales are low he forces me to admit my faults and why I wasn’t making sales. Normally, I would talk very little and nod my head and say yes to whatever he says. It’s my fault because….
The last time we spoke I had enough. I t...

Suggestions regarding a decision made

Posted Friday November 28 2014, 1:06 am

I am a student from india and i need some opinions on what i did was foolishness or a good thing. I am in my final semester of my masters where i do not have class and have to do a project. Since i do not have class i will always be at home. Instead of sitting idle i thought i may go to work. So i attended an interview for a bpo(which is different from my field of study) and got selected and was all set to join. My mother and my sister were againist me joining as i had to work 6 days a week and also the pay was comparitively very less. I still went ahead no joining and went to my college to get my certificates for submission. When my teachers heard this, they were againist it as well. I did wanted to earn some money but after hearing all this i backed out. Was it the right thing to do?

Cannot make a decision beween these two

Posted Tuesday August 26 2014, 4:49 pm

Hello ladies and gents, my question is really lame and still i am so very nervous about not being able to solve it on my own. So any opinion is much much appreciated.
I studied fine arts, fashion design in college and i want to have a master's degree, for that i've applied for an arabian airlines called 'emirates' as a stewardess. The plan wasto work there for say, three years and save up for my masters.
But then, a nice job offer came to me from a well known fashion designer, it doesn't pay well and the hours are terrible, the job itself is very demanding and it is more like being an assistand instead of actually getting to design anything. Basically being around taking notes and making phone calls and tending to clients. Ye...

How Does a Young Girl Get Into Acting?

Posted Wednesday August 6 2014, 12:29 pm

So I have the same cliché dream as every 14 year old girl: To become an actor. I was wondering how I get a career of some sort started so that I can work my way up to being on popular and successful shows like those on Nickelodean and Disney Channel. I'm involved with my school's drama club and musicals and such, but where do I go to get something bigger? I live fairly close to some major cities (New York for example) where I'm sure some auditions are held, but how do I find them? Also, how do I tell my parents that I want to be an actress? I feel like they frown upon that sort of thing. I really love acting; being on stage gives me a thrill and happiness like nothing else. It's just the most amazing thing when you can completely embody so...

Nervous about job interview

Posted Tuesday August 5 2014, 7:18 pm

I got a job interview for a patient access representative position at a hospital in two days. I'm a little nervous b/c I blow it on my last job interview. In the last one, I told them I was registering for college soon but swore that it won't interfere with the job. It's full time. I was going to take online classes. The agency that connect me w/ the company said they were hesitant about hiring me b/c I was in school. I felt like I should not have told them that. It was almost like they were shaming me for getting an education? I'm in debt and really need the job. Do I have to pick one over the other to get this next job?

Salary Range

Posted Friday July 25 2014, 4:39 am

Why would a company state a salary range if they don't intend to pay in the upper end of that range? I interviewed for a job recently. The stated salary range was $65k - $75k. They offered me $68k, which is only $1k above my current salary. I turned down the offer, but the HR Manager called and said they really liked me, and wanted to know what it would take to get me to come on board. I told her $72k. An hour later, I was told they were going to pursue other candidates. They didn't bother to make a counter offer.

Should I Stay or Go?

Posted Wednesday July 23 2014, 12:25 pm

You answered my question about making a job change recently. After initially accepting the offer, I recanted and turned it down. Later that day the HR Manager left me a voicemail stating management really liked me and wanted to sweeten the offer. I called this morning. Instead of making an offer, she asked me what it would take to get me to come. I gave her a number that was 6% more than what Iwas offered, but still well within the stated salary range. She later sent an email saying she gave the proposal to management and that they were going to pursue other candidates. They didn't even make a counter offer, and said they really didn't think I wanted the job. I thought it was bizarre.

Should I Stay or Go?

Posted Saturday July 19 2014, 3:24 pm

I work in a unique environment. The company I work for has a partnership with another company. I work for company X, but company Y pays my salary. I report to managers with both companies. I have two concerns. One is that I don't have a good working relationship with my company X manager. Also, after coming to work, I found out company X hasn't given a raise in six years. The job itself is fine, and it is near my hometown. I have a job offer that would take me out of the area. I would get a 10% salary increase. And I would not report to multiple managers. It would require relocation. I am absolutely torn. What things should I consider in making the decision to stay or go?

jobs/internships

Posted Monday June 23 2014, 10:36 am

I am 22 and just out of college. I'm not going to get into details but something in my plans for the coming year fell through and now I need a job, at least for the next year. I desperately do not want to work in retail or food. Is there anything I can do that is better? Internships? Receptionist? I live in the NYC area. Any help would be sooooo appreciated.

What are my job options?

Posted Monday June 2 2014, 6:28 pm

I’m 23/female.
I mostly have experience in babysitting children and watching the elderly. I figured I need more experience and volunteered at a local YMCA for 6 months. I helped in the front desk, cleaned, laundry, and daycare. I was friendly to everyone so I have good references.
I have a lot of time in my hands. I took my college summer semester off to look for a job and get some money. I have applied to all of the fast food places in town, which are a lot. I also applied to small and large stores. I applied to different temp agencies. I even went to job fairs.
No one called me back. When they do they would say there are no openings or I’m just not what they’re looking for.
I finally found a job, working...

Medical Assistant and Medical Coding

Posted Sunday June 1 2014, 3:37 pm

OK. I start medical assistant classes in the fall. And lately I've been thinking about going after a CPC for medical coding.

Medical assistants also do coding. Coding doesn't require any experience and i'm going to be learning it anyway so it's not like I'm going into it without ANY education.

I also know that if I pass the CPC exam, then I'll only get it as an apprentice until I either get more experience after 2 years or I do a program by the AAPC doing operative notes. Which I plan to do. So I understand that.

My question is, Since I'm doing medical assisting, would getting my MA degree be considered experience in coding?

I'm really feeling conflicted.

Thanks in advance.

Retirement, Relocating, Apartments and Jobs.

Posted Monday May 19 2014, 12:27 pm

My mom and I are trying to relocate to Georgia. She just retired 2 weeks ago. She wants to get a new job in a warmer state down south, but none of the apartments will accept her because she doesn't have a job down there yet. I don't live there yet either, I live in a different state as well. But to get a job, people are wanting us to already have a place to live down there. She is only going to get about $500 from her retirement fund and most of the apartments want you to make 2-3 times the rent. Do you all have any suggestions as to what she can do?
