So I have the same cliché dream as every 14 year old girl: To become an actor. I was wondering how I get a career of some sort started so that I can work my way up to being on popular and successful shows like those on Nickelodean and Disney Channel. I'm involved with my school's drama club and musicals and such, but where do I go to get something bigger? I live fairly close to some major cities (New York for example) where I'm sure some auditions are held, but how do I find them? Also, how do I tell my parents that I want to be an actress? I feel like they frown upon that sort of thing. I really love acting; being on stage gives me a thrill and happiness like nothing else. It's just the most amazing thing when you can completely embody someone else and be anything you want. This is so important to me, please give me some advice.

Listen to everyone but do what your heart is saying....!! if you want to be an actorss than go and live your dream. but you have one backup also so that if you fail to do, than you have second choice and if I talk about patience is must in the field of entertainment because patience is key to success, I'm also a struggling Dance want to be a choreographer....!! :)

With all respect-you need to leave your dream of appearing on the Disney channel and Nikelodean on the shelf FOR NOW.
This is because a whole part of being an actress is about being likable. If when playing these smaller roles people think 'oh she wants to be dead famous' then that may come across as arrogant.
Instead you've got to show a passion for your career-no matter how big or how small the play/show/musical/production whatever is you are acting in.
My advice? Volunteer. It shows a real commitment to performing arts-that you are soo into it you do it in your spare time.
Its also a good opportunity to put in a lot of practice and become really great. Here are my top tips:
1)Create a YouTube channel. Anyone involved in the entertainment or media industry (me) needs to be seen on all levels of technology. Just pop up clips of you that you may have already-anything-online. Above anything you'll see how far you've come.
2) Get a website. Doesn't have to be .com can be /weebly.com-whatever is easier for you. Refer to yourself in the third person and always include samples of your past work and contact forms.
3) Don't get ahead of yourself. Patience is key-sure some people wake up a star but most people have to put in heaps of effort.
4) If your parents disagree with your career choice ask them why. Listen and take note of their concerns. I think its important to have a back up plan-because even famous actresses can become unemployed.
5) Consider why you are in it. Is it because of your love of acting. In which case you can still act but in your spare time and have a different career. Or is it because you love acting and want to be famous. If its the later-don't act like you want to be famous-else people wont like you.
6) Make yourself stand out. I don't want to upset you but there are thousands of girls in America alone that have exactly the same dream as you. Do you look like other girls? Do you act like them? Don't-it'll do you no favours in the long run. As with most people in the entertainment industry you need to have a unique image. Of course looks aren't everything-so that's why I say make sure also your personality is pretty unique to.
