How can I get a job as a phlebotomist? Please help.

Posted Friday January 18 2019, 5:41 pm

I contacted the red cross for volunteer opportunities and they said that they only hire phlebotomist. I've applied and applied to numerous places and I keep getting denied. They want people with experience and I only have my classroom experience and my 2 week hospital externship. Its not enough. I'm getting declined by blood banks and everywhere else.

Should I still apply?

Posted Friday January 4 2019, 5:36 pm

So there’s this job that would be perfect for me, that requires two qualifications,I’m not qualified for it yet but by the time the job starts (May) I would be qualified for it because it’s something I’m going to learn at school so if you were in my shoes would you still apply or just find a another job?

Is it hard to get a job in the hospital?

Posted Tuesday December 25 2018, 8:24 am

I’ve been applying for phlebotomist positions and haven’t heard anything back yet. I’m looking for part time because I’m still in school. I have volunteer experience working in the hospital. I did patient information, ran errands and comforted sick patients. I’m planning on getting a CNA and EKG certifications. All I have for now is phlebotomy certification. I don't know if this is true, but do you have to know someone to get hired?

Do they train you on what to do on the job, or do they expect YOU to know?

Posted Tuesday December 25 2018, 8:01 am

I am a certified phlebotomy technician. When I was in training, there were some things that I didn't understand. My instructor mainly focused on how to draw blood from a patient. We didnt spend a lot of timw on other things and it went really fast. When I took my certification exam I didn't do well on the "processing specimens" part but still passed the exam. Will they train me on the job or just expect me to know?

I am a certified phlebotomist but can't get a job b/c no experience.

I can't find a job. I even applied to the ones that said you must have 6 months to a year experience. I only have my classroom and hospital externship experience. The externship was only 2 weeks. I'm looking for part time phlebotomist jobs because I'm still in school. How do I convince someone to hire me?

How to stay at one job for a long time?

Posted Tuesday November 27 2018, 11:30 pm

I'm 24 and so far I've had a difficult time staying at one job. In fact, the longest I've stayed at one job was a year (twice). I seem to make it around 4-9 months before something happens or I don't want to work there anymore.

For example, at my current job (at a bar) I make really good money, but constantly run into men sexually harassing me and touching me and after I was assaulted last week I no longer want to work there. I've been there for 9 months.

The job before that was in medical data entry and I also made good money there, but I hated my bosses who constantly yelled at everybody, insulted everybody, and would threaten to fire us constanty. I was there for 4 months.

Then before that I ...

I need a new job

Posted Tuesday September 18 2018, 4:55 pm

Hello, I am 24, female and I am a paraprofessional in a school district. I apologize in advance, I'm sure this is going to be lengthy.

I started this job last August (2017), I started with a child for a couple of months but things didn't work out with him, he broke my thumb and had to get sent to a different school for emotional support. I was given another child who had very extreme anxiety, he could not go into his classroom at all, something triggered him (he didn't ever tell anyone what that was) but we all knew that there was no way we were ever gettin him in there. So, our last resort, he was signed up for cyber school. He did his classes online, in a small room that is located in the office. I acted as his teacher, I a...

Why do I miss teaching when I'm tired?

Posted Friday September 14 2018, 5:37 pm

25/f

I taught for two years. I hated it. I loved my students and I loved the people I worked with. But I dreaded waking up everyday when I was one. My first job was a special education teaching job and it was emotionally, mentally, and physically draining. My second year, I was teaching third grade. There was a lack of admin support.

I was hired to teach, not to correct students behaviors which was about 70% of the job. I liked how I was able to make connections with the kids, see them grow, and have an effect on them. I saw it as raising the future generation.

But I was exhausted. I was tired of the lack of admin support, my weekends ended up with me working, constantly being on the move, the mo...

Trying to move to California

Posted Sunday June 3 2018, 12:21 pm

Thank you so much for clicking on my question. I appreciate your willingness to help me sort through this difficult issue. I'm a 27 year old female. My family is basically like a cult. While I love them and care for them, I understand that I need to break free because it's not a healthy environment. I could go on and on and provide story after story. But, to make several long stories short, they have isolated me to a point that is unhealthy. At this point in my life, I have one friend, and now they've prohibited her from coming into the house because my grandmother had an "intuition." I live in my mom's efficiency. I don't pay rent, but I pay the mortgage of the house and all of the utilities. So, basically, my mom doesn't pay any...

Torn between quitting a toxic job and having extra money

Posted Friday May 11 2018, 12:31 am

To make a long story short, I found myself working as a waitress at a strip club about two months ago. I love the money I make there as it let me quickly pay off debt I owed that was holding me back from finishing my degree and I can now focus on padding my savings where as at other jobs I barely made enough to get by.

However, you're forced to drink there because customers will often buy shots for you to try and get you drunk and if you say no you don't make any money (I make money for each drink I sell) and the managers frown on it (seen as losing money). Due to this I've already gotten in one mild car accident that I was lucky enough to have not been hurt in and nobody saw it happen so I got away with what could have turn...

Not sure what would be the best career move

Posted Sunday April 15 2018, 12:18 pm

Hi there! I'm 27 years old/female and I'm graduating with my Masters in Higher Education Administration with a graduate certificate in academic advising at the end of this month. For those who don't know what that is.. it's basically a career to work within a university. Ideally, my goal was to work in academic advising... helping students to pick their classes, adjust their schedules, try to decide their majors, etc.

I had been offered a part time position at the local community college as an advisor. However, to work at a four year university, you need a masters. I did not take this position because unfortunately, I cannot afford to work part time. I am completely financially independent, as I'm not married. So, every bill...

How should I interpret this feedback from my job interview?

Posted Thursday April 12 2018, 5:53 pm

Semi-good news or just bad news territory, if I were to break the news to family?

I just had a recent job interview for a tutoring program. The interview was set up in two formats with the same recruiters. A traditional one-on-one session where they asked the questions and then I do a small presentation in front of them (if I were to work with students in a scenario). While the feedback that I got for my presentation is good, my interview portion was described as hesitant which caused me to not move forward in the process. The job hires every six months, so my current file is on hold with them if I were to apply again. And then just go straight to the interview process as oppose to starting from the very beginning again.

What should I do? Grab the position and become a teacher later or wait it?

Posted Monday March 26 2018, 1:34 am

I am on a time crunch. It is almost summer, meaning I will not bring enough income during the summer.

I left my teaching position because I wanted to find a job that I I would love. But after three months of job searches, I haven't had much luck. I know I should've been more prepared, but because of the lack of support I received at my teaching position, I had zero time for myself let alone to search for a backup position. I was miserable.

Now because of the time crunch, part of me wants to go back to teaching. I don't know why. Maybe it's because I kind of miss it. But then I realize that if I go back, I'd probably hate it again. Maybe because it's familiar? Maybe I'm looking for a better environment/support?...

What is more important? Find your passion or money?

Posted Friday March 2 2018, 2:19 am

I am a substitute teacher. I previously left my teaching position mid-year due to the lack of admin support. My whole life, I have been working jobs that I hated. I was in marketing, I was in sales, and turns out that I do not like teaching.

After soul-searching a little bit, I decided to try to narrow down careers that were a good fit for my personality. I found out I would need to get my masters to become a librarian. I was either going to be a librarian or I would go into administration.

I decided to give administration a try and to volunteer at my local library to see if it's a good fit.

I have been going to many interviews the past two months and I have not been landing ...

Mute who uses Pidgin Sign Language seeks job assistance

Posted Thursday February 8 2018, 3:03 am

I am moving to Colorado this year with my husband and I need help finding a job suitable for me. I am a selective mute/social mute, but I do know some sign language and am constantly learning more signs. I use PSE, Pidgin Signing English which uses actual ASL words, but the sentences are structured the way English is spoken, unlike traditional ASL. Right now, I work in a grocery store, but once I move I will need to find a new job. Is there any way, I can find a community or online list for mute people? I have been a casino soft count clerk, a cashier, housekeeper, landscaper, and deli clerk. I just need help in a new state.
