Finch or Budgerigar? Which do you think is better for me?

Posted Sunday July 12 2015, 2:48 am

Alright, so, I really want either a pair of zebra finches or a budgie, but I can't decide which. I'm aware that finches actually require more complicated care than people usually say, so I'm prepared to put them in a large cage and give a diet of seeds, fruit, vegetables, millet, a cuttlebone, etc. and a few toys.
I've noticed that the major difference between budgies and finches in terms of care is that the budgies need more variety in their diet and need to play with their owners and get lots of out-of-cage time.
I'd prefer that, but I'd be happy just watching my zebra finches and listening to their meeps. I have a cage that'd probably be better suited to a budgie, it used to house an amazon (don't worry, the bird's still al...

I think I killed my hamster!

Posted Saturday June 13 2015, 4:54 am

I had a little hamster named Cleo. I didn't clean her cage for a whole week and more, and she hasn't come out for a few days, so I open her cage to check on her. At first I couldn't find her so I started moving her bedding around. She was laying under the bedding not breathing. I even had someone else check to make sure she was dead. She is about a year and half. I feel really guilty. Can someone please help me!?
P.s, Please excuse my grammar I am writing this at 5:00 am and I'm really tired.

My gf and I split up

Posted Tuesday May 19 2015, 12:13 pm

Hey, so is going to be a bit long, I'm sorry. My ex and I split up about half a year ago and we decided at the time that I would keep our dog Spot because she would be moving in with her dad and he and his wife have like 5 cats. I didn't want any complications so I asked her to give me full custody of her and I would give her visitation rights. Well, after we split up, the break up got really difficult. I gave her more than two months to move out her things and it got to the point where I had to start threatening to throw her stuff out so that she would come get them. We had a lot of arguments after the break up to the point that I don't want anything to do with her anymore because every time she came by to pick up her stuff, which was more...

I put my 2 cats on a wet food diet. Why do they act like they're starving?

Posted Sunday April 26 2015, 3:45 pm

I recently just switched my two adult male cats (one is 1 year 1 month old, the other about 1 year 7 months) over from a dry food to a wet food diet. Previously they had a bowl of dry food that was out all day (so a free feeding diet). Now, I'm feeding them Purina Friskies 100% Complete & Balanced Nutrition for Adult Cats & Kittens and the cans are 5.5 oz each.

I read online from several reliable sources that they should get around 8oz of canned food a day as they both have a large build (as in they have large bone structures not that they're fat).

Right now I put out one can in the morning and one night, so 5.5oz twice a day or 11oz in total which is more than the recommended feeding amount. I also gi...

about how big will my dog get?

Posted Thursday April 9 2015, 1:06 am

We adopted a Chihuahua/Terrier mix a month and a half ago. (She's 5 months now.) She weighs about 9.5 lbs. She has a double coat, the top coat kind of wiry.. The bottom coat smooth. She still has floppy ears, but they stand up occasionally.
She has pretty big paws, and semi long legs.

Standing up she's about to where my calf is (I'm 5' 7")

I'm thinking she's a Westie Terrier Chihuahua mix, but my mom says she's a Glenn of Imall..

But I don't know.. So what do you think?

IS MY DOG GONNA BE OKAY?!?! :(

Posted Tuesday February 24 2015, 1:17 am

I recently lost my dog of 12 years Izzi... And we had bought a puppy to keep my 7 year old Chihuahua from falling into a depression stage.

The thing is, whenever we're about to leave, he is under our feet, and following us everywhere.

Separation anxiety.

The other thing is out of nowhere, he gets tense. I mean really tense. His muscles tighten and he looks like a bridge with legs. I'm serious.. Like how cats pose when they're defending themselves.

When he does this, he screams in pain. He doesn't yelp, he SCREAMS. These episodes last about 10 seconds each. He doesn't stop until the dog aspirin that we bought at petco kicks in.. We took him to the humane society because that's the...

Sick Bird?

Posted Wednesday February 11 2015, 5:52 am

Recently I have noticed some changes in regards to my pet budgie.
1. Puffed up feathers
I'm not sure of it's a sign of sickness or him being cold
2. Loss of balance
He seems to be falling off his perches more often
3. Constantly having his eyes closed
I can't tell if he's sleeping or not
4. Slight rocking back and forth

I think I will try and go to a vet but I wanted some feedback. Also, are there any way I can get cheaper treatment for him? I am a student and don't have much money right now.

Boyfriend works and is gone from home for hours, any ideas?

Posted Sunday February 8 2015, 11:53 pm

My boyfriend recently just moved out by himself with his dog. He used to have roommates with dogs as well, so whenever he's gone for work, his roommates would take them out for a walk and feed the dogs. During night time, his roommates created something where the back door was accessible for the dogs so they can leave whenever they want to use the restroom in the backyard.

Now that he lives by himself, he's having trouble keeping up with his dog and is coming home with his dog pooping in the house. It's been cold lately, so he has not been wanting to leave his dog outside while he's gone because it's been cold. Do you have any ideas or any idea for technology that could help him?

I thought of a dog house and a...

Is The Dog Telling Me Something?

Posted Wednesday February 4 2015, 1:21 am

At home there is a small drawer with a razor blade that we use to scrape crud of the stove. One day I was getting some dishwasher capsules and I was holding said razor blade. A little later, I saw my dog and he was growling at me and once I put the razor blade back in the drawer, he stopped. Can my dog be telling me something?

introducing a 4 year old chinchilla to a new one?

Posted Wednesday January 21 2015, 1:50 am

I just recently bought a HUGE enclosure for my 4 year old male chinchilla and i'd now like to get him a buddy! Chinchillas are social creatures and being a mother i dont always get to spend the much needed quality time with him anymore.

My question isnt HOW do i introduce them, its CAN i introduce a 4 year old MALE with a younger chinchilla? and also would it being a female MATTER at all?

I dont want them breeding, and my 4 year old isnt fixed yet so i thought about a male but ive heard they can be awfully territorial and im worried they might NEVER like each other and then what am i gonna do!? i only have ONE cage here!

should i be looking at males or females? should i get my 4 year old fixed...

Should I keep this puppy?

Posted Thursday December 4 2014, 9:08 am

I adopted a puppy from a rescue organization about five weeks ago, and it's absolutely killing me but I think I need to considering giving her back to the rescue, and I'm not sure what the right decision is.

She is a German Shepherd mix puppy, almost five months old now and about 40lbs currently.

She is a very sweet dog and I really really like her, but now that she has come out of her shell more and more I'm beginning to feel like I'm not equipped to handle her personality.

I spent a lot of time looking for the right dog. I only looked at rescues because I wanted to give a dog in need a home, and I was looking for a dog that was friendly, loving (affectionate), and gentle. The right dog for me i...
