My mom wants to give away my dog. And I have to choose between my mom and d

Posted Friday February 10 2017, 1:44 am

I own a pug who is 5 years old healthy. My mom wants to give him away as she doesn't like him and prefers her home to b the same as before. Things change when u get a dog. I study out of town and visit home every other weekend but that's not enough for her and my dog. My brother is busy with his own studies and hardly pays attention to our dog. Mom is right on her part but my dog is my only friend. He is the reason I'm still alive. He is the reason I visit home. And mom doesn't realizes that giving my dog away would be giving my soul away. I don't know where to give him. What to do. How to do this?

My roommates dog has fleas and is giving them to my cat?

Posted Friday January 13 2017, 2:25 pm

So my roommate and I live in an apartment on campus of our college. She had her dog when I moved in and then two months ago I got my kitty. When I first got him he didn't have fleas and he's never been outside. Then I started noticing flea dirt on my sheets. I wound up going crazy giving him flea ointment, vacuuming everything, cleaning my sheets, bedding and rugs.

The fleas went away for a little while and then I took my cat home for break for a month. No sign of fleas.

Now I'm back on campus and it's four days in and I just saw a flea jump off him and have been seeing flea dirt again.

I'm getting mad about it, but I know if I bring it up she's going to say it's my cat not her dog and that her d...

My kitties won't get along :(

Posted Monday November 21 2016, 6:45 am

Hi all, 29/crazy cat lady. Kitties are all female, 8y.o.(Luna)is spayed, ~2y.o. (Siren) is not spayed, and almost-4-months-old (Addie) is not spayed.

So, I adopted Luna when she was 10 weeks old and have raised her as an only cat, and effectively my child. She now walks around growling and hissing at anything that comes near her, me included. That's not to say I don't still love on her and give her kisses and face-cuddles and pets... she just complains more.
I rescued Siren in June, and admittedly didn't get to do much of a slow intro with her and Luna. Luna found out about her very suddenly, and sequestered herself to the bedroom closet for a couple weeks...
Fast forward 10 days or so and I discovered Siren ...

My cat has red discoloration IN his eye.

My cat has red discoloration in his eye and his eye is very cloudy, but the other one seems completely normal. Any idea what could be causing this? And what's the severity of it?

Giving away kittens :(

Posted Monday October 3 2016, 7:50 pm

Hi all, 28/F... this might be the silliest question I've ever asked, but I just need some reassurance, I guess.

So, it's a long story, but I rescued a cat a few months ago, and she gave birth to the most adorable kittens of my life. I tried not to get too attached, but it was really inevitable. Mama cat is super attached to me, so her kittens followed suit. I basically only know how to live and treat others out of love - that is the core of my existence. As I type, one of the kittens has climbed onto my lap, licked my nose, and purred herself to sleep...

It took absolutely no effort to enlist friends to adopt these sweet babies. One of them is coming to get her little guy this weekend, in fact.
Logica...

Cats don't get along, but one's about to give birth.

Posted Wednesday July 20 2016, 9:58 am

Hi everyone!

I've had a new cat (n00b) for about 50 days now. She was pregnant before I rescued her, so I'm expecting kittens soon. (Just to put it out there, I'm planning to adopt them out after 8 weeks, and will have a no-kill shelter as a LAST resort)

My other cat (8 years old; call her 8) is extremely skittish, and not a fan of n00b. She's staked out her territory as the bedroom, and will not leave it. But n00b keeps crossing the line and they hiss and growl at each other (no real fighting). 8 keeps to herself mostly, which makes me sad - she used to be very cuddly. I try to give her attention, which she loves, but I don't spend a lot of time in the bedroom.

I've tried to integrate them - ...

My ex-stray kitty might be pregnant. Newborn kittens??

Posted Saturday July 16 2016, 9:37 am

28/F Cat in question is ~1yr (vet's best guess)

So, I rescued a stray female cat about two months ago. I figured she wasn't spayed, but I wasn't worried about it, her being a decidedly indoor cat, now (she's taken very well to the pampering and cuddles). Funny thing was, she hasn't gone into her heat cycle since I've had her. Didn't realize that happened as frequently as it does. My other cat was spayed at 6 months, so she never went into heat.

Anyway, I noticed this one's nipples sticking out of her fur and somewhat swollen. Her abdomen is also swollen, and it's a bit like she swallowed a softball. She was also doing a lot of foraging for food even after being fed (I've been feeding her appropriately for her ...

4 cats in small apartment need solution to their fighting

Posted Monday June 27 2016, 11:53 am

I have two cats and rescued two more so now i have four cats in a tiny one bedroom apartment. Giving any of them away is not an option because of the 'trauma' they have experienced. Sometimes I don't even want to come home anymore because of all the fighting and growling. It is non stop so I'm always drained and angry now. Any advice on how I can make this work in such a small space?

How much should I feed my rescued stray kitten?

Posted Saturday June 11 2016, 9:34 am

I rescued a stray fuzzball awhile ago. She can't be more than 3-4 months old at this point (still has kitten fuzz, still squeaky). I've been feeding her about 6oz wet food per day, but she constantly forages for more food.
When I found her, she was effectively starving, very bony, but had been surviving. I get the sense that if I were to let her free-feed, she would overeat because she's used to NOT having food... still adapting to actually having regular meals. She's gained weight and seems healthy (we have a vet appointment coming up).
Should I be feeding her more?

Related to the feeding, I have an older cat (8 years), also female. If I don't, like, lock the older cat's food up with her, the kitten eats HER...

Integrating kitties

Posted Tuesday June 7 2016, 8:54 am

Hi! I'm 28/f.
So, my cat, Luna, is 8 years old, and spayed. It's been just the two of us (against the world - hah) since she was a kitten. She's skittish to the point that she sometimes gets jumpy and runs if a car sounds wrong. We've had some rough times, but she's adapted to everything, including dogs (not directly, but dogs in the home)... She's never had to adapt to another cat.

I've taken in a kitten - Siren is her name. She's a stray, can't be more than a few months old (still has kitten fuzz and a kitten mew) and the sweetest thing. I checked her for fleas and anything visible before I made the decision to bring her home (haven't taken her to the vet yet, money is tight) and gave her one heck of a bath after I...

Did I Do the Right Thing?

Posted Friday May 27 2016, 7:42 pm

This is kind of multiple pet questions in one, but the first is the important one. I have done something that I feel guilty about doing to one of my pets and although part of me feels it was the right thing, another part doesn't know.

I used to have a golden retriever named Buddy. I had him for nearly fourteen years and he was probably the best dog I've ever had in my life. A while back, he quit walking because he stopped being able to use his back legs. I thought it was just arthritis and took him to the vet, thinking he'd just get some medicine and we'd go home. However, the vet examined him and told me that he had a spine injury and his back legs were paralyzed.

The vet gave me two options. I could choose su...

Should I sneak a cat into my apartment?

Posted Sunday January 31 2016, 5:25 pm

So I live in a duplex, it's a house with two stories. I live in the basement apartment with my roommate, and two other girls live in the apartment above us. Me and my roommate both want cats extremely bad. I volunteer at the humane society, and there is a cat there I've been wanting for a long time. In the lease we both agreed to no pets on the premises. The girls in the apartment above us signed the same lease, and over winter break they had a dog in their apartment for about a month and they never got caught. I talked to my landlord about it and also offered to pay a deposit, but she said no and that past tenants used to be able to have pets but they ruined the apartment. I don’t know whether or not to just sneak the cat into the apart...

Is it normal for a guinea pig to have a bald patch?

Posted Monday January 11 2016, 5:56 pm

Hey!

My guinea pig has a bald patch under his chin. The skin looks completely fine, no visible wounds or anything. I wonder if anyone that has a guinea pig has had this issue and whether they know if I need to see a vet for that. I realize the internet is not the best place to get advice about this, however I really really can't afford a vet and I'm freaking out. If this could mean something is wrong with my piggy I will go to a vet. Does anyone know whether I should be concerned?

Please only answer if you believe you can help with this. This is a scary situation for me and I need advice from someone who knows more about this. Thank you so much!

My dog won't lick me but licks everyone else?

Posted Saturday December 26 2015, 4:31 pm

Hi, I am 23/f and I have a three year old teacup yorkie. I personally don't like being licked by dogs, but when I hold Mitzi (my yorkie) and see if she will
Lick me, she will do maybe two licks and that is it.
But when my fiancé comes over, she will
Lick his face for hours if he would let her, same with my
Mother. Why won't my dog do that to me?

Swollen vulva of teacup chihuahua

Posted Thursday October 1 2015, 2:43 pm

Our 5 year old teacup Chihuhua is in the 3rd week of her heat cycle, and she has withdrawn into herself and looks depressed.
Her vulva is swollen but does not look inflamed, although she is having difficulty in walking.
She has been this way for the past 3 days but perks up in the evening when she will eat a little.
Please advise

I want a pet, but my mom doesnt

Posted Wednesday August 26 2015, 11:12 am

I used to have a guinea pig when I was 8 and my parents never helped out with it because they thought of it as a rat. Now that they are dead :( and I'm 14 now I was another pet. I asked for a dog because that's what I've always wanted but my mom acts like she's afraid of them. I thought about getting a bunny but I'm not so sure if that would work for my busy school schedule (I go to school at 7 and don't get back until 6). My dad said that my mom would be better with a small dog but dog are also really expensive. Do you guys have any suggestions on what I could do because I really want a pet!

Your child's health or a pet?

Posted Monday August 3 2015, 11:57 am

Hello, so we have a ferret and I am highly allergic and suffer from asthma, fur from the ferret makes it worse. Even though there is a ferret cage outside and they are capable of living outside my mum still brings it inside during the nights when my asthma gets bad. It's placed in the living room where I am usually sat. Do you think my mum should put my health first?
