Alternator test for output

Posted Monday July 9 2012, 8:35 am

What's the simplest way to to test a car alternator (12 volt system)? Type of testing instrument needed and range calibration?

Gauge in van is stuck, doesn't move during charge or discharge. Battery seems ok when externally charged.

Alternator may have been damaged by antifreeze "flooding" due to insecure radiator cap.

Vehicle Maintenance Program

Posted Monday June 18 2012, 9:37 am

So I am looking online to buy a car and I keep seeing the same thing on different auto places... what is a "Vehicle Maintenance Program" exactly? Is it like they do all your oil changes and tires or is it more than that? If so then what kind of things do these cover, do they cost a lot and are they worth the money? THANK YOU!

Tachometer Kit

Posted Sunday June 17 2012, 8:53 pm

Hi again!

A while back I wrote and asked about a speedometer kit, and I want to thank you for your help! Guess what? I got the dash all back together and a few days later the tach quits! :(

So, you can guess my question, right? Is there a tachometer kit that has everything I need and if so should I buy it the same place or where should I buy a tachometer kit? I am asking this seemingly silly question because to me it looks like the tach is electrical, where the speedo was mechanical.

Thanks again for all your help!

Car website and good cars?

Posted Wednesday June 13 2012, 9:00 am

So I'm going to be turning 16 soon. And my parents are buying me any type of car I want. I have heard about this website that had like, reposessed cars, and other cars that the police are selling. I have no idea what the website is called though. does anyone kno what its called? Ad also, what are the best type of nice, cheap, cars?" I was thinking in the type of car like 1970 dodge charger or 1970 chevy nova. I have always liked muscle cars where you can put a good system in it (subs, subwoofers) . So, if you have any idea of the website or what it sounds like please tell me. And any good car ideas. THANKS:)

Speedometer Kit

Posted Sunday June 3 2012, 6:28 pm

The speedometer went out in my car, and a friend of mine told me that I could order a "speedometer kit" on-line and that if I buy one it will have everything I need to fix my problem. Two questions:

Will the kit have everything I need included?

Can you suggest the best place to buy one because I looked a little and everyone seems to sell different ones!

Thank you for your help!

My Ford 2001 Explorer pull to the right

Posted Tuesday April 24 2012, 12:57 pm

I have recentyy got my brake pads, and rotor changed on both front wheels. So Sears changed them with new ones and as part of their due diligence they had to replinish the break fluids and do wheel alignment. I was impressed with their caring nature.
But soon, I realised a problem. Since these changes, my car 'refuses to drive straight' instead it 'pulls to the right'
I went back to Sears and they were delighted to see me. They did the alighnment and told me that the alighnment numbers are within the Fords acceptable range? Now they saying that one of the Calipers is sticking to the rotor. Since only one caliper does not completely release the rotor, and the other one does, the car pulls to the right. They indicated the pisti...

Shopping for motorcycles

Posted Friday January 20 2012, 10:18 am

I really want to learn how to ride a motorcycle and I also want to find the right one for me, but I don't quite know where to start. I looked up types of motorcycles on Google, but some of them look too big for me. I'm a petite woman and just about to graduate. I read in a review that for beginners who are on the small side should try a SV650 Suzuki? It doesn't quite help me much... Any ideas on how to start the search and maybe anymore helpful information I need before I start getting further into this?
