Q: I have been with you all for probably over 5 years and I have never received so many questions as I have been over the last couple of months. I rarely come on the site, there is no attention being brought to be, so there is no reason why people would be specifically asking me questions almost every day. This leads me to believe that you all have made some change where people can pass me questions they don't want to answer. I DO NOT want to be a part of this. I have asked you all to remove me from it before and I have not been removed. I have no problem if a guest on the site specifically asks ME a question that relates to the types of questions I answer, but just any old question being passed to whomever and it happens to be me, it's getting obnoxious. Is there a way to opt out of this question passing thing without having to prevent people who Actually have a question for ME from asking? If not, then I would rather not take any questions. Please let me know if I need to provide you with any account info to make the necessary changes. Thank you.
Hi there,

If you aren't interested in answering questions that are passed to you, you can go into your profile settings and turn off inbox questions altogether. You are the only person to say anything negative about the added ability to keep questions from going unanswered, so far at least.

Most people have been grateful for the increased number of questions to answer, sorry you aren't one of them.

Thank you.

Q: Here is my first book! Im super excited and would love to share it with everyone! Please take time to purchase and read it! https://www.createspace.com/3655087
While I wish you luck with the book. Advertising paid products isn't what the questions are for.

If you would like people to review a sample chapter of your book and let you know what they think, that would be fine.

Happy publishing!

Q: I have been trying to link people through HTML and cannot seem to make it work. I have done my homework on the code etc. Is there something I am missing? This is what I use:
create a website
Thanks for your help.

-Sammie-
Hi there,

The HTML code is disabled. All you need to do to make a link clickable is type the link. If you feel the need to name the link, you can do it like this:

Create a website:

http://www.createawebsite.cc

Q: I paid for a paid account through Paypal and while the payment cleared with my bank I still do not have a paid account.

So I am suggesting here that my account should be activated :) if I screwed up on my end, let me know! Thank you
Welcome back!

I am sorry I lost track of this. No real excuse for it, just that I didn't search my e-mail for PayPal messages this month. Sorry about that.

Been so long since anyone donated, I forget to even check. How sad is that? ;-)

Thanks, not only for the support, but also for your patience, and the questions you answer.

Again: Welcome back!

Q: On 12th June I started a paid account again, the money has gone through but so far my status is still set at no paid account. Can Russell please look at this for me? Thank you x
I am sorry about that, Jan. I have been trying to get back on my feet here, but still have some bad times occasionally. I just lost track of this, and I apologize.

Such a pleasure to see you back on the site now! :-)

Q: I made this thing years ago and totally forgot it existed until someone brought it up to me. I'm just wondering how to delete the account.
Hi there,

If you want to delete the account, e-mail dangernerd@gmail.com with a subject of: "Delete my account" and enclose your password in the e-mail.

Is there anything we can do to help you start giving advice again? You gave very good advice and we would love to see what you have to offer now that you are a couple years older and wiser.

It would be sad for you to lose credit for all your hard work.

It would be great if you decided to stay... :-)

Q: I've noticed that every time i click on my advice column i get two more visitors, then i click somewhere else and it goes up another two until it gets to 48, or 58 etc then it'll go to 61 and then in twos and then three at the ten again. is this to somehow boost a column? is it possible to delete this visitor counter? I find it offensive :|
Hi there,

Nope, no way to disable it. As for the multiple number increase, it would most likely be because your browser is pre-fetching the other column pages every time you view a page.

Not sure what you are finding offensive here, but sorry for the offense, whatever it is.

Q: I recently searched my name and found that your site came up on Google where I had once posted as a child. Frankly, this is an enormous embarrassment, as anyone who searches my name can see it. I would like my name removed ASAP. Not only is it an embarrassment, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth when I think of future employees searching my name to find such a virtual trail. This is nothing against your website; Just about my youth and naivete. I attempted to email the two columnists on whose sites my name appeared, but their emails are no longer working. This led me to believe that they are no longer currently updating their sites. Please assist me. Email me a possible solution at chocolate_lover_101@yahoo.com Thank you
Hi there,

Please send the username of the account you wish removed. Thank you.

Q: I wrote a question, and got an email saying someone had answered, but when I checked, there was no answer. Where did it go? When I go to "Your Questions" on the side it says "1 answer" but there's nothing.
Hi there,

Please provide a link to the question so we can look into this.

This usually happens when someone answers a question, and is then banned for answering rudely. Their answer is hidden from you until the mods decide if they are going to delete the person's account or not.

Thank you.

Q: I was just suggesting an idea, how about the people who send questions in, send them to advicers to their emails directly? That way their problems could be fore private and confidential and they'd feel better about sharing their problems, especially if they don't want to post it somewhere others will be able to view it? So having their problems sent to an email address would be more appropriate and benefit both, the person who needs the help and the advicer?
Hi there,

There is a really good reason that we do not allow this. The questions people ask here are private. Nobody has the ability to find out who asked them except for the upper level moderators.

If we sent the questions directly to your e-mail, and exposed the e-mail of the asker so that you could reply, then YOU would know the identity of the user who asked the question.

You could then post their e-mail address and publicly humiliate them.

This is why this site offers anonymous question asking the first place, so things like that do not happen.

I am sure you didn't consider this before you asked. I can tell from your answers you don't want to hurt anyone.

I hope you see that disclosing e-mail addresses makes things LESS private, not more.

If you post your e-mail address and they want to e-mail you, then they will. Make sure you have it posted on your column if that is what you want to do. Don't post it in your answers.

Thanks.

Q: Will you please explain to me why AnonYmousezBac's account got deleted? Two people rated me 5's. My style is a little different. I beat people down but I will bring them back up. I'm no softy cuz from personal experience, it hasnt helped me. The last time I looked at my feedback, people were laughing (the ones I'd given advice to) and giving me 5's. I know what you're thinkin, but it surprised me too. I try to encourage people to get out of themselves, which is why I provide crude humor to help them see that. I guess 5's arent good enough with you people?
Hi there,

Two abuse reports were filed against you.

When the mod looked at your column, it was apparent you didn't read the FAQ.

That would be the reason.

This isn't the place for crude humor. It is a place people come for help, not to be made fun of.

Q: Hey I was bored, so I did what a buncha people do and searched my email online to see if someone posted anything about me online. It made me realize something really creepy- when I searched "mellophone03" a ton of stuff came up about advice I gave on this site. If you sign up to this, anyone can figure out so much about you. I havent used this site in 2 years but its still out here!
I don't even use this anymore and I just wanna get rid of it. I don't need people reading all this stuff about me. When I used this site, I thought it would be a lot more private.
Anyways, can you please tell me how I would delete my profile? I want to not just delete my column, but the answers I left to people's questions.

PS: No, I'm not asking you to help me cuz I've done something wrong on here or said something I shouldn't have, but I realized a put a lot of personal information into this and it makes me uncomfortable.

Thanks :D
Hi there,

We don't delete answers or questions that do not contain identifying information.

If you no longer want the account, all the answers and questions will be moved to the orphans account.

This keeps the people who answered your questions from losing their work, and the questions you answered from losing their value.

Once your column is deleted, no references to mellophone03 will remain. The answers will still be here, but nobody will know that you gave them.

As for thinking it would be more private, I am really curious what ideas you had about that. Could you tell me in what way you felt it was less private than it could have been?

I am guessing you chose to use a name that you use other places, which is a big no-no when you are talking about yourself, but other than that, is there anything that we could do to change things in a positive way?

Thank you.

Q: heyy i was just wondering how to delete my account because i want to make a new one but it wont let me use the same e-mail thanks in advance :°]
If you would still like this done, please inbox DangerNerd with the reason you wish to start a new account.

Q: i am sure you may have heard this before, but why keep questions six months or older on here? it should be 30 days max...
Simple: There are questions on here that are 6 years old and several HUNDRED people get help each day by finding one of them in Google.

Some questions have over half a million people that have come from Google and found help through them.

30 days wouldn't even be enough for the question to be indexed in all the major search engines let alone do any good for anyone beside the asker.

It is important to remember when you answer a question here that you may be answering it for thousands of people with a similar problem. Not just today, but for years to come.

Q: This is NinjaNeer... howdy!

I purchased a paid account a little while ago, and my PayPal says it cleared on the 15th. I know I'm being an eager beaver here, but your accounts page said to contact you in case it didn't show within a day of payment being received.

Thanks!
Hi there,

I have an e-check payment from someone whom I e-mailed for an account name. Check your e-mail and if that is you, please reply. If not, please send an e-mail with the receipt from paypal, because I only had one notification in recent memory. :-)

Thank you for the support!

Q: Hi,

I am basically interested for business reasons. I had written to you about the offer a few

days back. Perhaps you never got the mail in the first place. Anyhow, here is the deal. I

found your site: www.advicenators.com really enchanting and would like to buy a number of text-links on your

site. Let me know if you would like to hear more of this.

Best regards,
Camila
Hi Camila,

We don't sell text links. You may target our site specifically through adsense, or you may offer to have banner advertising run when adsense doesn't, but we do not ever sell links.

Thank you.

Q: i think you should figure out how to get rid of some of the ads
There is a way:

http://www.advicenators.com/paidaccounts.php

It costs us several thousand dollars a month to stay open. The money has to come from someplace.

Thanks.

Q: Okay so i got a message from you saying that i violated and did something illegal by giving a 13 year old advice on piercing her nose. No where on the question did it say she was 13 though so i didnt know. Am i really going to get banned for that? I dont wanna get banned over that when i didnt know.
Hi there,

Please send me a copy of the warning you were given. It didn't come from me, and as such I would need to find out which moderator issued it.

Anywho, it is safe to assume that if the person is not listing their age they are 13.

The problem with the answer you gave about self piercing isn't really to do with the person's age in my opinion, but rather the EXTREME health risks of what you are suggesting. A simple staph infection could const a person their life. Death... to save $40 getting a piercing? Pretty sad, don't you think?

Q: I would really like to delete my account yet cant seem to find a way how. Can you PLEASE take my account down. Thank-you.

Vikki S.
Account removed. Thank you.

Q: hi looking for a site similar to pm other menmbers if i can help with questions or to ask a answer i like to talk in private
Many advice columnists here list their IM and e-mail info for direct contact. Those that don't don't wish to give their info out on the net.

I don't know of another site with more people willing to speak with you privately.

Questions are anonymous here, from everyone except the admins for security reasons, if that helps.

This advice column is for suggestions, comments, or error reporting about advicenators. If you'd like to suggest a new category, ask me a question. If you'd like to whine, bitch, or complain about advicenators, you may whine, bitch, or complain to me.

Three rules though:
1) Do not ask me for life advice. We have several thousand other members that do that.

2) Do not ask for help, or ask how to do something, or ask about
how something on the site works, unless you've read every word of our help pages and you're sure it's not addressed there.

3) Do not ask me to ban someone or investigate abuse. We have an entire abuse system set up for that.

If you disobey one of these rules, I'll delete your question.

Some guidelines about suggestions:
If you offer a suggestion that I find interesting, I might just ignore your question so it stays in my inbox as a reminder of something to do. Don't be upset that I don't answer you, and don't delete your questions (because then I'll forget!)

If you have three suggestions, please ask three separate questions, that way I can address each one individually. It's a real pain when people ask one question with like twenty different topics in it; I can't keep them straight.
