Books - Picking the storyline

Posted Sunday September 16 2012, 5:29 pm

Hi,

Many, many years ago while I was in school, I remember reading a series of Goosebumps books. On certain pages, you could choose what happens. For example, "to go into the hall of mirrors, turn to page 45. To leave the fairground, turn to page 70' and so on.

I've been trying to find these again, but I'm not sure what to search. Is there a name for these types of books? Are there any books that aren't as childish as the Goosebumps series in a similar format? (I'm 20). Can you recommend any books of this format that you've enjoyed reading?

Thanks folks!

Can anyone identify this bug?

Posted Saturday September 15 2012, 12:24 am

I live in New Jersey in case that means anything. My mother and I just saw this bug that we've never seen before and I have yet to find anything about it online. It got away before we could get a really good look at it but we did see some things.
It was tan or light brown.
It appeared to have a bunch of legs. (Reminded me of a thousand legger)
It had a scorpien like tail (swooped up in the air)
It moved pretty fast.

I when I google for the bug I keep finding results with bugs with wings or big scorpien pinchers and that doesn't match what we saw. Can anyone help?

Dry patch on leg that never goes awy.

Posted Friday September 14 2012, 7:15 pm

18/F
Ever since I was about 5-7 years old I've had this line of dry, bumpy skin on my leg that has never gone away. I have no idea what it is and I've just grown to ignore it.
It's of flaky and never itchy, does anyone have any idea with wha it could be? Lotion doesn't help it.

can't keep a job

Posted Sunday September 9 2012, 3:11 pm

21/f I have ADHD and have been off and on my meds. Well anyways I've had trouble keeping a job for as long as I remember. My first job i walked out on because I was really upset. Well I changed my attitude, and I learned to be better. And after that it was mostly because I was slow and employers would get upset with me, or It takes forever for me to learn something. Then they tell me it's not working out. I mean this has been going on for the last years and I just want to be able to keep a job. I am back on my medication, and I am going to work at a salon as a receptionist, and I am very scared. I start training tomorrow, and the manager said it's a lot of responsibility. I have to answer calls, book appointments, I am pretty much the moth...

Sending international letters?

Posted Sunday September 9 2012, 2:16 pm

I want to send fanmail to One Direction
The address is
Modest Management
The Matrix Complex
91 Peterborough Rd
London
SW6 3BU

I ship things on Ebay using Priority Mail Flat Rate envelopes and I thought I could just print out a shipping label and use that to mail the letter. But I can't figure out how. When I go to print on I can't find London or the UK on the list so that leads me to believe I can't use this envelope. So I would need to use a normal everyday envelope, right? Do I need any special stamps to ship this to London?
I don't mail ever and my dad has never mailed anything outside of the USA so we're both confused.

Didn't know my apartment requires a pet deposit, advice??

Posted Wednesday September 5 2012, 7:51 pm

So, a few days ago I adopted a cat.

I'm a college student and I'm paying my way through school so I don't have a lot of money. I have a enough to take care of the cat though.

But yesterday I found out my apartment asks for a $400 dollar pet deposit which I cannot afford right now. I

After school I only have about $500 a month for groceries and things.

So far, I haven't told my apartment I adopted a cat. What do you think is the worst they would do if they eventually found out? Just ask I pay it?

Should I tell them and try to work out a payment plan or something. I'm just worried they'll want all the money up front and I have no way to do that. I would be devastated ...

Credit

Posted Sunday September 2 2012, 12:12 pm

So, this goes back to when I was like 16 or 17 and I got my first debit card. It was a simple little check card where I could put my money in... the little money that I had lol. Well, I remember going on this trip back in high school and when I got back and checked my bank account, I saw -$600 something dollars. That is NEGATIVE SIX HUNDRED SOMETHING DOLLARS. I was freaking out. Plus, I didn't even have a credit card or credit or anything like that. I was still in high school and wasn't even 18 yet, so I couldn't apply for a credit card. I thought this would affect me when I did want to apply for one, which wasn't so far away. I asked her what had happened? Why had my account been overdrawn?! I never even used that card. It was like a savin...

Jay Walking

Posted Wednesday August 29 2012, 7:10 am

Hi,

I want to do something like Jay Walking, and then throw it on youtube? Like go on the streets, ask people questions, and record the stupid answers.

I know the process of recording, and I'm sure I'll be able to find out how to edit videos after a few hours of googling, but how much should I be worried about the legal aspect? I know hidden camera TV shows have to make the people sign waivers to give their permission to use it, but where does someone find a copy of that?

Or what should I do? I don't want to get sued, but I think this would be pretty hilarious?

Any advice would be great! Thanks :)

iPad questions!

Posted Wednesday August 15 2012, 7:06 pm

So I've been wanting to buy an iPad for awhile now and I was just causally mentioned it in conversation to a friend the other day. That friend went on to tell me that an iPad has phone capabilities and you need to pay a monthly fee like for a Smartphone to have one...is that true? I didn't think/know that.

If that's not true, which GB iPad should I get? I want the 1st generation; the cheaper ones lol. I would use it to surf the web(obviously), download apps/play apps, watch videos, stuff like that.
I'm really slow when it comes to GB sizes so I don't know what's a lot and what isn't.

Thank you!

(PS - Apple iPad (First Generation) MC496LL/A Tablet (32GB, Wifi + 3G)

Subconsciously speaking a language

Posted Tuesday August 14 2012, 4:51 am

Hi.

I'm a terrible sleep walker. I remember one day, I was sleep walking. I was sweating terribly. My mother and grandmother came into my room, and they said I was speaking fluently in the language that my family originally speak.

The thing is, I don't really know any of the language. I've been bought up listening to family speaking, and I get by, but I cannot have a conversation speaking it. I struggle, and I only really know the basics.

My mother told me I was speaking really fluently, in a dialect, speaking really fast and shouting.

So what could be the explanation for this? Could it be possible that my subconscious remembered the language whilst hearing people speak, and tha...

Selling Facebook Page?

Posted Monday August 13 2012, 2:21 pm

17/F
I have a Facebook page with 566,716 likes and growing. I get messages asking me if I would be willing to sell my page and as a young adult (18 on Wednesday) struggling to get a little extra money, it seems like an easy way to make a little extra cash. I don't use the page at all.

This guy told me he would pay me $300 via Paypal. Is this illegal so sell your page? Is this a good deal? How would this work? Would he need my login info to use the page? Anything anyone has to say about this will be helpful, thank you!

Can I put my ethnicity as African-American on the census, when I'm white?

Posted Sunday August 12 2012, 9:25 pm

My family immigrated to America from South Africa. My parents and grandparents were born there, and I was, too. I have European roots, but I see myself as African, cause well, that is my personal origin and culture. I now have American citizenship, so I see myself as African-American, which makes me confused because apparently I'm supposed to be Caucasian? What is that supposed to mean?

What exactly is the census trying to say? How am I not African-American when I'm literally an African-American? A lot of black Americans have been American for generations, and don't even currently have any African culture, so I don't see how they're more African than me, just because they have more pigment in their skin. Is that insulting for...

Does anyone know this movie?

Posted Friday August 10 2012, 7:37 pm

I remember when I was a kid I was watching a movie with my mom that I THINK was on Lifetime. It had Jamie Lee Curtis in it and she had been in a coma for like 15 years or something at her home with her family and she suddenly wakes up older and her kids have aged. Me and my mother both remember the movie but we can't think of the name. We both searched Wikipedia and IMDB but couldn't find it.
