I came here to answer computer questions. (This used to say "...and nothing more.")

What I meant was, I don't know how much help I would be with other things... NOT that I would be upset if you asked a non computer question!

No matter the subject, Ask Away! (I'll do my best.)

hi! I was wondering is there ANYWAY what-so-ever to get an I.P adress off of an AIM screen name? (link)
If this is a matter that requires investigation (someone stalking you), get in touch with your local police department. Also write to AOL and inform them of the matter.

If you need exact people to talk to, please e-mail.

Thank you,

are the cookies in the computer bad? should i delete them? if so which kinds ? (link)
There really isn't much risk from cookies. For example: When you log in here, and you check the "remember me" box, it stores your login info in a cookie. There are sites that use cookies to see which of their sites you visit. There are some that are used to track your travels on the internet. I don't worry about it, because the bad ones are easily removed be using this free program called Adaware:

...it is a great program.

That will keep you safe if you use it.

In OpenCanvas 1.1, I have two problems: First of all, when I draw with a tablet, the line appears far away from my cursor. Second, once I've drawn with a tablet on a particular picture, it won't draw iwth a mouse. Can anyone help me fix this problem or direct me to a free OpenCanvas 2.xx download? (I don't want OpenCanvas 3.xx because it's just a trial version.) Thank you! (link)
In response to your rating comments and feedback: What I was talking about:

Let's say you have a tablet made by Wacom. There is a program you install on your computer that makes the tablet work right. It is there that you can adust the alignment (Where the pointer appears in relation to where you put the stylus on the tablet. Find this, or download it then you will be able to fix the problem most likely.

Hope that helps more,

DangerNerd

Does your tablet have an alignment program built into the driver? If so, that may help.

Also, OpenCanvas 2 is NOT a free version, it is a shareware piece as well.

I wish I could be more help.

Howdy Duke,

Make sure you go to windows update and get the latest updates for outlook.

Also consider going to:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com

...and running their free on-line virus scan.

Then get AdAware from:

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

...and check to see if spysweeper missed anything.

If you still have problems, e-mail me.

My e-mail is driving me crazy. It keeps saying I have three new messages when there is nothing in my inbox. This has been happening since my friend sent me an e-mail to sign up to Neopets to help her with some points thing. Now it keeps saying I have three messages. I sorted everything in my inbox into different folders and deleted what I don't need. Nevertheless, it still says I have three new messages. Does anyone know why this is happening? I have Optimum (sp?) Online if it helps. (link)
I just can't believe that people are telling you to get a new e-mail address. :-(

All you have to do is write Optimum and tell them you are having a problem. If they can not, or will not, fix it, THEN go somewhere else.

I think they will be able to get you straightened right out. You are probably one of many people having the same problem.

Let me know how it goes,

DangerNerd

Just recently, my family purchased a computer mouse that was the laser optical type.

I've only used the rolling ball type, so this is all new to me.

But every 5-7 minutes or so, my arrow on the screen with jump toards the side bottoms. Is this normal for this type of mouse? If not, what can i do to stop the skipping around. I'm not even pressing remotely in the way it randomly jumps. (link)
I have had a similar problem. With me it was a microsoft optical mouse.

Try using a mousepad with no design on it, or placing a piece of white paper underneath the mouse. The design on some desks play heck with the sensor in an optical mouse.

If it still does it with the pad or paper, take the mouse back and get a completely different brand. My opinion.

Let us know what happens,

My computer has been screwing up for the past few months. The sound is fine when I first turn it on, but after thirty minutes of so of listening to music, the sound goes away. What's up with that? Does it happen to anybody else? And also: when I have miniture pop-ups and I exit them, ALL the I.E. windows close. Can anyone identify what's wrong with my computer? It's not old, I just bought it last year, if it matters. (link)
Could be any number of things...

Let's start with the first steps first.

Check out the free on-line virus scan at:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Next download AdAware:

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

Run this and clean the spyware off your computer.

Here's another thought: plug another set of speakers in, or headphones. See if it does the same thing. If so, it is NOT the speakers.

Now, if you still have the sound problem, let me know and we will go further.

I've looked but cant fund the site counters.. where you put a counter on a site to say how many people have visited..
i know of coolcounters.com ..but does anyone know of anything else? (link)
Probably the best free counter on the Internet:

I have personally been using them for four years.

I can only access internet explorer on one user account. Access is forbidden on all other users account. How do i change this to allow access for all users? (link)
All the previous answers are incorrect. Rather than type the whole process out for you here, I suggest you visit this page about turning off internet access for certain accounts... Just follow the reverse of the directions to turn them back on.

http://www.g4tv.com/callforhelp/features/31797/Limit_Access_to_Certain_Files_and_Programs_in_XP.html

Long URL, copy and paste it.

I know this requires effort..so 5's to anyone who isnt mean. Can someone go to http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=3321515 (i know its long..copy and paste) and tell me if that laptop is good quality, or if its crap? Like..does it have enough hard drive, etc. thank you thank you thank you! :) (link)
The brand is a generic... One thing to remember with laptops: Almost any part that fails will cost as much as the whole laptop, so BUY the extended warranty if they offer one. If they do not, then don't buy it.

256MB of ram is not really much these days. I suggest you shop for something with a minimum of 512MB. Also consider shopping for a larger hard drive. 40 Gig is ok, but in the price range you may do better.

If you take a look at dell.com they have a fairly cheap laptop that has about the same specifications this one does. You can also get a 3 year extended warranty there.

I have been fixing computers since 1982 and, trust me on this one, you do NOT want to have to pay for repairs on a laptop.

If you want to know the laptop I have seen have the longest usable life: The IBM thinkpad series. They are all the same basic black, so they aren't stylish, but they just keep going and going in my experience.
