I keep weeing myself, without realising!

Question Posted Tuesday March 17 2015, 2:17 pm

Hello

I am 17 years old and I recently started wetting myself. Not massive wee's but big enough. The other night at 4 in the morning I rolled over and felt this sudden wetness like an someone had just broke my waters. I had to get up it was all over my legs! It happened again today. I'm just unsure what to do I have been on 6 months treatment for thrush so know its not that? I'm just super embarrassed and don't want my partner to find out!

Thank you😊

None of us are doctors so we cannot and should not be offering any medical diagnoses.

A long course of antibiotics for Thrush is not the normal treatment. Generally several weeks is all that is needed to wipe it out. I'm guessing that this longer course is because you do not have one of the milder cases of Thrush.

Antibiotics kill off good germs as well as bad germs. Given this longer course of antibiotics you may have picked up a Urinary tract infection. If you are a sound sleeper plus the effects of the medication you may not be getting the signals at night to wake up and go to the bathroom that you are getting when a wake.

My advice is to see a Urologist. A urologist is a doctor who specializes in the problems of the Urinary system. When you see this doctor either bring your medication, prescribed and over the counter medications or have a complete list with you of what you are taking.

In the mean time as another advisor wrote you will find undergarments at drug stores or big box stores that look much like underwear that you can wear at night to absorb the urine and not wet the bed.

I would check for a urinary tract infection especially since you mentioned a partner. Incontinence at your age and coming on suddenly can mean illness in the meantime there are undies that you can wear that will absorb wetness and smell they sell them at the dollar stores, walmart, and pharmacies in all sizes and for men and women. It does not sound like a reaction from the medication since you have been on that for 6 months and this just started. See a urinologist or have your general practitioner refer you. Good luck

If you havent had this problem all along, that simply points to something new or different or enough of something perhaps in your diet having built up that it finally has become a problem. People don't just start having a bladder problem for no scientific reason that can't be explained away physically, or even emotionally. If I were you, I'd first look up the name of the medication you've been taking for 6 months, online and look up the side effects of it. See if urinary problems are listed as a side effect, and if so, see the Dr. right away so you can be prescribed something different to treat thrush without having this side effect. Some medications need a long time to build up in ones system before having their side effects.
Otherwise, you just need to go see a Dr. they may not ask all the questions that may make a difference but they will need to know what prescription medicines you're taking as well as over the counter ones on a regular basis. they will need to know what you ingest, your normal daily intake of foods and drinks and how many. Equaly important is what your sleep schedule is, what hours you're up, how many hours you sleep before waking up for the next day and how much you drink and when before going to bed. There may be something causing weakness in your muscles that wasn't there before and kegel excercises might help.
Dr.s see people routinely about bladder problems, both older people with usually weakening muscles or younger people due to diet although it can be a symptom of many other things as well. And thats why a Dr. needs to see you to get this resolved. As embarrassed as you may be, it's something they have no trouble dealing with and don't see as strange, odd or embarassing, just a fact of life.

If you have only recently started to wet the bed, it could be caused simply by you producing of a lot of urine. If so, the problem may resolve itself in time. It could also be caused by many other things, including: a urinary tract infection, alcohol, coffee or diuretic medicines, sleeping tablets, diabetes, stress and anxiety. It can even be the the result of neurological problems and sleep apnoea.

My advice to you is, if you can't pinpoint the proximate cause and take the corrective actions yourself, you should be seen by your physician. In any event, you must tell the parent you feel the closest too. Don't worry, it's nothing to be ashamed about, it's merely a condition that must be dealt with
