Even if you are asking because twins run in the family, it doesn't matter, there is no way to guarantee you are not having twins unless you get your tubes tied and never have kids. And I am sure that option is out of the question if you're planning starting to have kids. If it doesnt run in the family, your odds are very slim to having a pregnancy of more than one child.

That's abit like asking how to avoid having a boy or a girl. You can't.

As the user below said there are different things you can do to INCREASE your chances.

But the main ways you're likely to have twins or triplets are because you've undergone fertility treatments or because they run in your family.

With each pregnancy, the odds of having twins increases.

My advice to you would be to not get hung up on this issue-because twins are rare and triplets barely ever (but still do) occur.

Other than that I think any child would be a gift so a multiple birthday would be double/triple the joy.

I believe some fertility treatments have been seen to proportionally increase the chance of twins or triplets (although that is not their primary function, more a side-effect. They are actually to increas the likelihood of conception at all for women who are finding it not forthcoming). But there isn't any way I know of that one can avoid them. It's the luck of the draw. The probabilities are on your side of NOT having more than one child but it's a random cell division thing. If it happens it happens.
