Splitting headaches after crying???

Question Posted Friday September 6 2013, 11:13 pm

How come I always get these terrible, splitting headaches after I cry? Can anyone tell me or explain what the reason might be to me? Please, I don't want to read ''we're not doctors or whatever'', if you know something, I'd really appreciate it ! Thanks!! :)

I agree, its the tension and stress that cause the headaches to follow the crying. It can also be draining of energy and leave a person tired afterward too.
What concerns me is, how often are you crying for this to be a concern and why are you crying.
Perhaps there is something else you can focus on bringing about a change in your life so there is very little opportunity for anything to make you cry so much.
If theres any other advice you'd like related to what causes you to cry in the first place, Im sure we'd all be glad to try in help

It could be due to the tension in your face, neck and shoulders. When you cry hard, your face muscles are usually very tense. Turning your mouth in to a frown, your forehead and eyebrows will most likely be lowered in a scowl. and I don't know about you, but if I'm upset about something or sad, I cry for a half hour to an hour. Try frowning and scowling for that long. It's tiring! Also when you cry hard, you may have muscle convulsions in your abdomen, shoulders and neck. Your head will bob up and down and your neck muscles are supporting your head. So it can be a very physical, straining activity! And of course, when you cry, you start to tear up, and your nose runs. Excessive sniffing or blowing of your nose can cause a headache in the sinus area.

These are just some ideas, but you may want to bring it up to your doc, just in case!

Hi,
Firstly the reason why advisors state that we are not doctors is because many people would only take our word for it, when there could be something serious the matter. After all nothing beats the advice of a professional-and we do all try to do our best for people like you...
Anyways, when you cry your breathing is irregular. Abit when you stand up to quickly, not enough haemoglobin in the blood is going to your brain, meaning not enough oxygen-this could be why you're getting headaches.
It could also just be a tension headache, caused by any kind of emotion, stress or extreme tiredness.
