Each section has different toppings, giving each slice it's own unique flavor, as well as making it a more difficult and time consuming pizza to put together. The original creator of the pizza quattro stagioni is not known or documented, but Antonio Pace, owner of Ciro a Santa Brigida Ristorante Pizzeria in Naples, has claimed that one of his ancestors had invented the now famous Neopolitan pizza to please his family's different tastes. Traditionally, the Pizza Quattro Stagioni is made with sections of mussels or clams, thinly sliced Prosciutto, artichokes, mushrooms, garlic, mozzarella cheese, grated parmesan cheese and fresh plum tomatoes and fresh herbs such as parsley, oregano, basil, and thyme.
