What is the tastiest way to cook a turkey for Thanksgiving?
Question Posted Monday November 17 2008, 12:16 am
I bought a turkey that is around 18 pounds. It will not be stuffed with anything because my family doesn't really like stuffing, and we will probably be eating around 2 or 3 in the afternoon on Thanksgiving day.
This is my first Thanksgiving and I have never made a turkey before. Could someone please tell me how to make a turkey? I need to know what temperature to cook a turkey at and how to make a turkey moist and delicious for Thanksgiving dinner.
Should I cover the Thanksgiving turkey with foil so it stays moist or is there something specific you should put on the turkey to keep it moist?
A basic recipe for cooking a turkey and easy, understandable instructions would be great. Any super great, yummy recipes for Turkey would be a plus! I know some recipes are secret, passed-down from generations, or just for the family but please spare this one for me for Thanksgiving?! Thank you ahead of time!
I have cooked turkey about 5 times already and every time it comes out very moist and good.
I saw this recipe on the food channel and it is how i cook my turkey now.
there is the recipe
takes 3 hrs the most.
it is the easiest turkey recipe =]
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Pull the neck and giblets out of the cavity; ditch the liver and save the rest of the giblets for gravy. Dry the turkey with paper towels, then season inside and out with salt and pepper. Fill the turkey with aromatics like chopped onions, carrots, apples and herbs, then place breast-side up in a roasting pan and brush with melted butter. Tent with foil and roast for 2 hours (for a 10- to 12-pound turkey; add an extra 15 minutes per pound for larger birds). Remove the foil, baste with more melted butter and crank the oven to 425 degrees F. Roast for another hour or until the meat at the thigh registers 165 degrees F. Let rest while you make the gravy.
MODERNDURATION answered Tuesday November 18 2008, 2:51 pm: i found this outstanding recipe online which is fairly simple and tastes great, my mom made it not too long ago. just click on the link below. And if its not for you there are others you can choose from which have been reviewed.
and if you still just want to cook a traditional turkey i would start by setting your oven to 350 then cover your turkey in tin foil and place in the oven as for how long you should cook your turkey i suggest 3-3.5 hours surrounded in tin foil to preserve the juiciness, once the turkey is golden brown remove the foil and cook for the last 45mins. The temperature of the turkey should be 165 degrees so you know it is safe to eat.
