You can get pregnant at any part of your cycle actually. Yes, there is chance you could have been impregnated if you had sex while on your period, even at the start or end of it.
There is a common misconception that if you have sex while you are on your period that the blood coming out of you will push all of the sperm out. The thing is, the sperm are made to do everything they possibly can to reach the goal--your egg. They are designed to be able to "swim against the current" so that they can make it upward into your uterus and tubes.
Now, if the egg has already been expelled it sounds as if there wouldn't be a problem; however, there is always another one on it's way and the sperm will fertilize it in while it's still in the fallopian tubes if they can make it. Sperm can live in your body for days (5 - 7 in normal conditions, longer if excellent conditions).
So, yes, there is a chance that pregnancy could occur. There is ALWAYS a chance pregnancy could occur. You should always be using some sort of "protection" to lessen (they don't prevent) pregnancy and STD/STI risks.
On another note, you ovulate roughly midway through your cycle. So, if you have a normal 28-day cycle you ovulate 14 days into it. For three or four days there you are at your most fertile state. However, if your cycles are abnormal then it's doubtful you'll be able to figure out when you're ovulating; although your internal temperature and discharge would tell you a lot (you expel more sticky discharge for these days).
To make it a little more clear, you are pretty much equally as fertile throughout your entire cycle, only when you ovulate you are a little more fertile than usual. There isn't a time when you are not fertile or less fertile than usual.
Anyway, back to discharges:
1. Before ovulation- There will be a small amount of (mostly) clear discharge.
2. Closer to ovulation- Discharge is wet and sticky. It is usually white/lightly cream colored. There is usually some mucus but it isn't as stretchy as it will be during ovulation.
3. At ovulation (roughly midway from your last period)- There will be a noticeably larger amount of discharge lasting a few days. It resembles stretchy egg whites. You are most fertile here (high risk pregnancy) and sperm entering your vagina will be able to survive slightly longer than other times.
4. After ovulation- Discharge is sticky but not as stretchy. Mostly clear, dwindling back to the "before ovulation" stage.
Many things can change the discharge you experience so it's best to not try to figure it out that way, to be honest. If your periods are irregular, you take hormonal birth control, have been taking an antibiotic, have been under a lot of stress lately, and many other things can all cause your discharge to change. In addition to that, sperm can live in the female body for a long time sometimes (live sperm have been found in a woman's body after TWO WEEKS of being expelled into her).
Anyway, a woman can get pregnant at any point in her cycle. It is always best to practice safe sex to reduce these chances if you are going to engage in such activities. It may also be a good idea to get yourself completely informed before participating in sex ;)

Well at the begining or your period your most likely more fertile and towards the end your lest fertile so at the begining or your period its easier to become pregnant and towards the end its least likely.

This seems to support what others have said: "The trouble in young women is that it generally can take your menstrual cycle up to five years to regulate, so charting your cycles simply isn't very reliable or easy to do. If you want to hazard a guess, then from about three days after your period, for about ten days, avoid any sexual intercourse, or sexual activity with a risk of pregnancy. HOWEVER, you STILL need to use a form of birth control for the rest of that month: those days are simply about the days you are MOST likely to get pregnant. There really aren't exact days but scientifically tested on average the days you are least likely to get pregnant 18 days after you've finished your period. Any other time after that you're chances are closer. The time you are MOST likely to get pregnant is 3 days before your expected period. Hope this helped.

Well, every girl is different and they each have different cycles, but right after you have your period, that's when you are most likely to get pregnant! Also, at least a week before your period is when you are least likely to get pregnant I think? It's different for everyone. Hope I helped :)

Hey. What I found to work was FETMA (www.femta.com) You entered your last period dates and it will help to determin your safest days to avoid sex and what days to have sex if you want to concieve. Hope this helps. Good luck!

you cant realli answer this question...because each girl is diferent..so each of our menstrual cycles are different. The point in the month where you have the most discharge is the worst time...and usually a week before and after ur period is when yoou can get pregnant.

first of all, there are only a few days during your entire cycle when you can pregnant.. these tend to fall right b4 your period. but do still be careful, unplanned things happen all the time when your cycle is irregular.

So from like the 12th day to the 16th is the worst time.

I've said this once and I'll say it as many times as need be. Eggs follow a GENERAL cycle, but there is no way to accurately predict when one will NOT be present when having sex. There are monitors that can read the chemicals in your urine and temperature and estimate your personal cycle for the most LIKELY days you'll be fertile, but as for not being, there is no accurate method. At anytime in your cycle you may become pregnant. Only the fertility monitors can give you a good esimation of you personal cyclic variables. Everything you see and read and hear about is all based on average results from medical studies. If you really want to know the answer for you, ask your doctor.

The 72 hours after your period is the time you are least likely to get pregnant. After that it gets slightly higher-risk.

Im not sure when you are the least likely to get pregnant, i think there is always that chance no what i mean? But i do no that you are more likley to get pregnant if you count 14 days after the last day of your period. It is when your egg is released and what not. And also I dont know if you know this or not cause you said about your period but you can get pregnant when you have your period. Hope I helped!
