save gas?

Question Posted Saturday June 26 2004, 11:23 am

ok, I have always heard that the air conditioner uses more gas when turned on. Is this true? Does the heater also use more gas? I turned my heater on one morning last week (yeah, middle of summer and i need the heater... maine sucks ass) and I noticed the rpm meter move up a bit when I did, and went down a bit when i turned it back off. This was all while I was still parked in my driveway.

I was also wondering if Cruise control uses less, more, or just the same amount of gas if it's turned on or off.

Is there anything else that uses slightly more gas turned on when I'm driving?

airconditions use more gas and rob power because of the extra belt on the motor attached to the AC.

heaters do not use more because the heat is coming off your engine and actully it cools your engine down, which is a good thign that will give u slightly more power

cruise control uses the same if u were driven the same exact speed is you wernt using it, it makes no difference

alot of things mess up your gass millage but nothing else that you would understand

using the a/c will use more gas mileage but the heater shouldn't. And the rpm goin up and down is most likely the car iddilng and i would think that cruise control would use less bcuz the car is goin at a steady speed and i don't think there is nething else that will use more gas. hope i helped *STEPHANIE* *X*O*X*O*

cruise control actually saves gas. some people have a 'lead foot' in which they sometimes press too hard on the gas while its moving.. others have 'feather foot' and they lighten up on the gas pedal so it goes slower. cruise lets you go the same speed without your foot on the petal.

hmm, about the AC and heater, yes i do believe they use more gas, but not THAT much. Not enough to complain about or to turn your heater/AC off.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the air conditioner and heater make it use a bit more gas, but I'm not sure about anything else. Cruise control can help save gas, because it keeps you at a constant speed and so .. yeah.

Well, everything uses energy when you turn it on. Gas provides energy.

You can save on your home gas bill by making sure your doors and windows are sealed tight, so the heater doesn't have to kick on as much.

You can help your car use less gas by making sure your tires are kept well-inflated - it seems like a minor difference, but a lot of people don't think about it.

Yes the air conditioning uses gas when its on. Using the air conditioner or heater puts more work on the engine, and because it has to work harder, it uses more gas.

Cruise control uses no gas to use, but can possibly save you gas. If you know you're going to be on a long stretch of road, using cruise control can reduce how often you push down and let up on the gas peddle, which means you save gas. More gas is used when you increase your speed obviously and most people cant magically keep their foot at an exact same level at all times so cruise control helps this.

Something that uses more gas is when you have a window down while driving. Strange yes. When you have a window down, again it causes the cars engine to work harder because of the force created with a rolled down window. So more work on the engine means your burning more gas.
