insomnia?

Question Posted Thursday June 24 2004, 9:43 pm

i used to be the first to fall asleep ( normally at other peoples houses during sleepovers) but lately i'm always the last person to fall asleep, like just last nite or this mornin, i didn't fall asleep until like 2am, and i "went to bed at like 11:30" idk if it's my matress or if i have insomnia, can u develop insomnia, or are people just born with it?

but i just cant get to sleep, i've tried warm milk, counting sheep, and wut used to always work, puttin on the tv, but i just can fall asleep, it's just like im to exhausted to sleep, is there sumthin wrong wit me (i've had tha matress for about 3 years... is that it?) but i also dont think it's the matress, because whenever people visit they sleep in my bed, and they think it's super comfortable, i just wanna kno wuts wrong, should i see a doctor???

or is it normal for a 14 year old to sleep like this

usually i also wake up n e where between 8-10am

Your body might be adjusting to one incedent when you might have stayed up really late or a day when you skipped sleeping. If you had traveled anywhere far away, that may have shot your body's sense of time off balance. If you drink a lot of caffeine, or eat a lot of sugar or carbohydrates, that can also keep you awake longer than normal. Your body might not necessarily need as much sleep as it did before because you might have stopped doing as many physical activities. In order to get yourself more tired and fall asleep faster, I might suggest taking certain sleep aid medication, or maybe even try to do more physical activity.

Ouch.
Yes, you can develop it. I did. I never used to have it until about 9th grade. My bedtime moved from 11pm to 4am.
To help yourself fall asleep, here's what I do. I have a boombox and headphones right next to my bed. I turn off the light, put headphones on and play my evanescence cd. I concentrate on listening to the guitar chords and trying to figure out what chords they are. Concentrating on something other than sleep makes me tired, and by the time the cd is over, I'm falling asleep.
Either that, or try meditating. Lay in your bed with the lights off and get into a comfy position, Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth, deep. Try concentrating on walking down ten steps, and concentrating only on that fact, letting your consciousness slip away. Each time another thought trickles into your mind, go up one step and start again from there.
THAT one's hard. It takes a lot of concentration and will relax your mind. Give it a shot. =)
Hope I helped!
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. =)

well I dont think you have it and yes you can develope it you dont have to be born with it. It is the summer and alot of kids are like that during the summer but if i becomes a problem then maybe you should see ur docotor and see if he can give you something to help you sleep. Hope I helped and good luck.
