What area of fashion do you want to work in. Design? Manufacture? Retail? Modelling?
GC_rox_my_sox answered Saturday April 10 2004, 4:14 pm: If you are still in high school or middle school, make sure to sign up for art or sewing classes. Enter fashion competitions (ones where you send in your own designs and they are judged) This isn't something you can do alone. You have to get a parent or guardian to drive you to competitions (unless you can drive) [ GC_rox_my_sox's advice column | Ask GC_rox_my_sox A Question ]
Cspinoza1 answered Saturday April 10 2004, 11:24 am: Well there are various ways to get into the fashion industy. First you need to decide what aspect examples: Fashion agent, Fashion coordinator, Fashion Designer, Fashion reporter. From the sounds of it you are looking to get into being a designer. So here are a few steps you can take.
1. Apply to local fashion shows as an extra hand for free, just to get experience.
2. Offer to help your school in plays and skits so that you can get some kind of fashion experience behind you.
3. Start designing your own clothes on paper, then slowly try them with cheap fabric- then with more expensive clothing.
4. Make a few of your best pieces and submit them into Amature shows for designers (those are huge musicans and actors are starting to attend these because of flare teenagers have.
Itf you have any other questions feel free to e-mail me.

My friend is studying at university to be a designer. Have a look around at university courses. As for modeling, I'm not so experienced in that area. I think you may need to create a portfolio and take it to modeling agencies. I hope whatever happens, you're successful :) Good luck! [ endilwen's advice column | Ask endilwen A Question ]
DruidX answered Saturday April 10 2004, 8:49 am: I would have said you best course of action is to do some reserch on the web about fasion houses, what qualifications they might ask for etc. Then look for univerisitys that offer those kind of qualifications. I think it really depends on what you want to *do* in fasion: be a model, a desiner, photographer. I would also suggest visting a proper career advisor. Your school will probably have one.
