Doggie.

Question Posted Sunday March 28 2004, 5:29 pm

I need to push some crap that's going on to the side and teach a doggie my aunt has.

He is full of energy at the moment, and I want to teach him tricks, the usual ones, but I don't know how.

The websites can confuse me a bit...I want to know what you all have to say on how to teach a dog, or recommend better websites?

---

I know it's my aunt's dog, and I should let her teach him, blah blah blah, but she is a very busy person.

my dog was trained by my stepdad when she was young and this is what he did... he wanted 2 teach her to not leave the property without the gate being closed so he would put the dog on the stoop and walk into the street and if the dog stayed on the stoop he would get a treat and if he did move he would be put back on the stoop. or if u wanna teach sit and stay use treats and like make the dog sit when u say sit and give he/her a treat then stop helping her after a couple of times. good luck!

hey, all u need 2 do is hold a treat in your hand and say the command loudly. she won't kno what 2 do @ first, so if you're teaching her how 2 sit 4 instance, push her lower back down, so she sits. then say like, good girl/boy! and give her the treat. eventually, she'll kno that when she does the trick, she gets a treat. this works w/ my dog. good luck! rate me plz.

I taught my dog how to shake like this. I took a piece of dog food and held it about a food above her head, got her to look at it, and took her paw in my hand. I said: "SHAKE!" loudly about 5 times, then I shook her paw. I put her paw down. Then I told her to shake. When she put her paw in my hand I gave her the treat. I kept repeating this until she would do it without me giving her a treat. Hope this helps.

make eye contact w/ the pup and say SIT! in a stern voice. Then push on their back until they sit. give them a treat each time. Do this until they do it on their own. Do other tricks like lie down, and roll over the same way. It will work.

Well you could research a book or even ask people that you know who has a dog and then ask them how to take care of it.

Its trial and error you can't force a dog to dog anything you want it to. Just spend time beause teaching a dog takes a lot of patience. SO just teach it fetch, play dead. Stuff like that then go to harder things.
