if you really want to chang your look, i say go right ahead and do it. if you like the color black, and if you think fire is pretty, then why should anyone else care. as long as you dont change your personality, your friends shouldn't have a problem with it. and if they do, i think you should find some friends that actually like you for who you are! well i hope i could help!

best of luck,

Assemble the look you want, but be aware that just because your clothes aren't you doesn't mean folks won't try to figure you out in part through your clothes. Even your friends may wonder why you've changed. It's just human nature to ask why things change or stick out.

Ask ten goths what the core of being goth is and you're liable to get eleven nuanced opinions... if you want to dress to affiliate yourself with a group (skaters, goths, etc.) first see if you like the company, then consider the uniform, not the other way 'round. If you want to borrow from a group, then no need to take solely from one set of symbols, eh?

Hope that helps!

True...why would they care. The better question, however...is why do YOU care? You mentioned you like the goth look. Do you like the goth because you like the look, or do you think you should like it because you feel a certain way? If you truly like the look, then the question's answered. Good luck.

Turc answered Tuesday December 23 2003, 12:30 pm:
Wear whatever you feel like wearing. Don't dress to fit into a stereotype. Labels and stereotypes are stupid, and the whole emo/punk thing is getting to be a little too much. If you like black, fine, wear black. If you like flames, fine, wear stuff with flames on it. But don't dress to a certain label- be yourself, not part of a "crowd".

Dress how you feel like dressing. It's that simple... any friend who's worth having won't care how you dress, as long as you are trying to be yourself and not someone else.

ScaperJess answered Monday December 22 2003, 11:09 pm:
Ahh you want to be your own self, be a nonconformist care not what others think... so in other words your conforming to the non-conformists? Ok as for a style rather than picking a group of people to look like why not go to stores mix and match what you like and what is comfortable for you that way you have your own style you like and you wont make those "groups" mad thinking your just a copier and have no right to wear that... unless you look like a slob or hooker if your friends care that much... they are not worth it... anyways good luck finding the true you!

MFS answered Monday December 22 2003, 11:02 pm:
Why do you care so much about appearance? Does that somehow define who and what you are?

You seem stereotypically angsty and yet superficial.

Sorry, but I call it as I see it.

Worry more about who you are than what you should look like.

1800Advice answered Monday December 22 2003, 9:23 pm:
Your style or writing poems, doesn't determine if your a goth or not. I think you should be whatever you wanna be, or dress whatever is you. Or what you want to be you. Change can be good..just as long as you stay yourself and don't change your personality too much. Also, be careful...if your not (and you care what other people think), kids at school might call you a poser.(dumb kids lol) Maybe you should do a mix of everything you like. A little black here...punk there...or whatever YOU feel comfortable wearing. You might also like to keep a little of your old style. No one else can change what you are going to do and only you get to be you. So like you said, just don't worry about what anyone else thinks. Be you.

shay*shay answered Monday December 22 2003, 8:42 pm:
It seems to me like you already know what you want. You want to go punker, but not to over board with flames and black. I suggest you ask for some of those things for the holidays. And yes friends do care about that kind of stuff. I left my friends just a week ago from school and they always dress normaly, but if I came back to friends going all punker I would probably lose my mind.
