Sleepover...

Question Posted Wednesday December 3 2003, 5:11 pm

My 10 year old daughter is invited to a birthday party sleepover this weekend. Is ten year old too young for sleepovers or is it okay for this age to go on sleepovers?

As long as its not co-ed. But 10 is a perfect age. It's not too young or too old. Make sure the parents are there though.
Hope this helped.

You know, things are a LOT different when we were ten years old. There's more violence, more sex, more risk of drug exposure, etc., etc. but I do know one thing. The fact that you're questioning whether the age is appropriate or not tells me that you're a very conscientious mother. Being so, I know you've done all you can you to teach her right/wrong, and believe it or not, there are other parents that are just as conscientious. And if they're the types of parents that would be congenial enough to allow a sleepover, then I also think that they may be responsible enough to insure that the safety of your child is forst and foremost, don'tcha think? :) How would YOU care for children that age in your care? So, you see, it's not the children, it's the adults. Let me know.

It doesn't seem that out of the ordinary to me. all that will happen is that they'll watch videos, play silly games, eat junk food, play with make up and talk all night. Talk with the host parents about it beforehand and everything should be fine.

you have to let go some time, just make sure that you have a good conversation over the phone with a parent to get a good idea of what they are like. if you still feel unconfrotable dont let her go. if you do end up letting her go stick around for about 30min get to know the parents better. let your daughter know that you love her and you want her to have a good time but she needs to behave herself.

Kei answered Thursday December 4 2003, 4:43 pm:
Most ten-year-olds are plenty old enough to sleep over at a friend's house, provided there are no circumstances which could cause your daughter problems at the sleepover (homesickness, medical problems, etc.).

(Now, a co-ed sleepover I'd generally have second, and third, and fourth thoughts about. O.o But I assume that's not what you were asking...)

ScaperJess answered Thursday December 4 2003, 3:44 pm:
Oh no I did sleepovers younger than that. If you’re concerned call and make sure it's all girls however I don't believe at 10 that should be an issue... I say that 10 is a good age to start, its a good social setting to spend the night playing with other girls, and I always remember they were a lot of fun. Remember some children are already spending a few days at a camp... It will probably be fun for her to go, and it's only one night... enjoy it ;)

I had my first sleepover when I was six. It depends on the maturity level of your daughter and whether she's ever been away from home or not.

shay*shay answered Wednesday December 3 2003, 5:16 pm:
Absolutley not! If you think your daughter is mature enough to not go and trash someones house at night let her go!She should have fun if she deserves it. Though if she is a wild one you may want to double think on that.
