Kei answered Thursday December 4 2003, 5:28 pm: It means you've slapped yet another pointless label on yourself or someone else. Congratulations.
Seriously, it means nothing unless you want it to. If you really want a specific answer, it originated in the '80s UK club scene, but enough mutations have rendered the whole thing moot.
I can't stress this enough: just be yourself, and form your opinions of other people as themselves.
Ever noticed how most of the stereotypical "labels" (prep, punk, goth, geek, jock, and so on ad nauseum) are four-letter words?
Simple-Minded-Feebis answered Wednesday November 26 2003, 5:59 pm: at dictionary.com. it says
n.A member of a Germanic people who invaded the Roman Empire in the early centuries of the Christian era.
but really all i think it is is people that dont beleive in god or do that like the color black.
but this would be a question to ask a goth person because every person is different [ Simple-Minded-Feebis's advice column | Ask Simple-Minded-Feebis A Question ]
Melmo answered Wednesday November 26 2003, 4:43 pm: In my opinion it doesn't matter *what* you are, it matters *who* you are. I personally try not to categorise people into "goth" "punk" "townie" whatever, and besides everything seems to be mingled together these days.
Strictly speaking, a goth is a member of a Germanic people who invaded the Roman Empire in the early centuries of the Christian era. But I'm sure that's not what you mean :)
Stereotypically, modern day "goths" wear black clothing, listen to dark music, have suicidal tendencies and are anti-social. But of course, this is only in the eyes of a narrow-minded person. This type of gothic culture originated with the "death of punk" so it's a kind of sub-culture derived from that.
As I said before though, I don't agree with labelling so it's quite difficult to answer your question as there are no real answers to it.
