Families are really good at driving you nuts, I can't stand talking to a lot of my relatives but when I have no other choice I suck it up, and be decent, try and not let them get to me and enjoy the time i am spending. It's not too terrible, but really if your asking if what you want to do is abnormal or terrible I don't think so. If you want to know what to do.. I'm sure it's really your decision, what you feel is fine, going somewhere with out family is fine to, it’s you life to live not theirs...

No, I don't think it's bad that you'd rather go on a ski trip then going and having Thanksgiving with your family. But they're your family so you may want to re-think that because if you don't want to hurt them you should really have Thanksgiving with them, no matter how much you don't want to. Thanksgiving only comes once a year and you will have plenty other of opportunities to ski, just on Thanksgiving, in my opinion, isn't a good idea.

Maybe if it's possible you could invite some of your family members to the ski trip but if that's not possible then the decision is up to you because personally, I'd go and have Thanksgiving with my family.

I understand. Since my family was divorced, I hate the holidays. Maybe you can make a deal with your family. If you go somewhere Thanksgiving, then you will definitely be home for Christmas. It worked for me.
Best Wishes.
