Question Posted Sunday November 9 2003, 7:07 am

i hope i put this in the right category... anyhoo, here's my situation...

i know this guy (we're friends, but not close) and i THINK he 'likes' my friend, but i'm not sure. he's pretty friendly with everyone, and it may just be me being paranoid, but i think he's being kinda flirty with her. AND i think she's being that way back to him. now my friend has never been out with anyone before but i think they both 'like' each other, and i'm not sure i like what's happeneing. how do you tell if a guy really likes someone or if that's just their nature? what does everyone think? what would you do if you were in my shoes?

It's nice of you to be so worried about your friends, but quit obsessing over the could-be relationship and let them take their own course. It sounds like you may have answered your own question when you said "he's pretty friendly with everyone, and I may be being overly paranoid BUT..." If he's "friendly" with everyone, it's probably just his nature. However, if your friends are liking each other, let them figure it out... it's not your job :)

Leave 'em alone. If you set 'em up, and it works, you're a legend. If it doesn't, it's going to be 100% entirely your fault. If you really feel the need to meddle, make a descision and suggest (ie. apply pressure) to one or the other, either the one you know the best, and so will forgive you if things screw up, or the one whos friendship you can afford to lose.

Or just let them deal with it. People _do_ occasionally work things out for themselves you know...

How come you "don't like" what's going on? If the guy is a jerk, just tell your friend and give her fair warning. It should be a pretty easy topic to breach if the two of you are close. However, if you don't like what is happening because you have a secret crush on the guy yourself, then that's something you just have to deal with personally. Make a move on him first. If you miss the boat it is neither the fault of your friend or the boy in question.
