If you are not interested in health you can consider a pop tart a breakfast. However, if health is important to you a pop tart is a low nutrition, high calorie, junk food. The Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon has 210 empty calories, 13% saturated fat, low protein only 2g, A vitally important nutrient your body needs first thing in the morning is protein to kick start metabolism and get you brain working. You can find 15-30 grams of protein in 210 calories with better choices. Ultimately it comes down to what is important to you instant gratification or long term health. If you want to grow old healthy pop tarts are not a good choice for breakfast.

poptarts are mostly sugar and dont have any vitamins or minerals so try aiming 4 a cereal with milk or orange juice or with a fruit in it

If you get the ones with frosting, they're not really a breakfast. Know what's good though? Nuti-Grain bars with peach yogurt filling. OMG they're so good. But if you're in a hurry, and pop tarts are all you can find, it's undubitably better than nothing.

I think it depends on the flavor. While the choclate ones are my favorite, they are not a good brekfast. However, eating ANYTHING is better then nothing. So if they are all you've got, pop away. If you added some fruit or a glass of milk, that would make them fit more into the brekfast category.

They really can be both... I love pop tarts, but that's just my opinion

I'm not entirely sure what pop tarts (they're not very popular in Britain) are but from the sound of it they wouldn't be the most healthy of breakfasts. cereal bars are similar and probably better for you but fruit is still your best bet.

I didnt know you can buy un-frosted poptarts. I wouldnt have like the chocolate ones for breakfast. But strawberry or he fruit ones might be good. Nutra grain bars taste kinda like the straw berry and blueberry pop tarts except they are healthier.

i would say either... i had them for brekkie this morning, and mum said that was fine, but i had too have something healthy, too. e.g. fruit or toast. but i suppose, foods are what you make them - sometimes i have warm chocolate muffins with ice-cream at breakfast time - but i don't call that dessert, i call it breakfast!!

I sometimes have pop tarts for breakfast, generally when I'm running late. I think they're fine. I wouldn't eat them too often, especially the heavily frosted ones, but breakfast foods they are.

They could be part of a balanced breakfast along with a little cheese and fruit and coffee or something. (The coffee's really important!)

I believe that they could be classified as both, depending on the type you get. Like a pastry, pop tarts are filled with some fruit filling. And also, like a pastry, they can be had for breakfast.

However, I would say that the pop tarts with frosting and loads of sugar on them would lean too far towards junk food to be classified as breakfast food. For pop tarts to be put under the heading of breakfast with no qualms about doing so, unfrosted pop tarts should be the choice in the morning.
