It explodes. Ha ha... I tried that this one time, and the plate it was on melted. But maybe that was 'cause it was a plastic plate... 0_0 I dunno.

Your microwave explodes, along with the right-side-up challenged popcorn in it.

you'll die ... when the timer beebs on the microwave and you open the door the pop corn will come alive and look at you then say "mwahahahaha i will eat you now!!! you silly macaroon" and then next thing you no popcorn will start flying above your head and start peeing butter and after it had no butter it will fly at you and hit you in the face then when you think all is over the bag will gobble you up and your whole house and then explode and your guts of you and your family members will go flying all over town then the pigeons will eat your remains

It explodes. One time, me and my cousin were the only people home and we were baking a cakeand we put the butter(in the foily stuff) in the microwave to warm it up a bit because it was rock hard. We left for a bit, came back and the butter was on fire. It was a prettyb ig fire. We both stood there stunned and then I ran to the sink, filled a cup with water and threw it in the microwave. Sadly, we didn't get to bake that cake because the butter was gone. :(

MFS answered Saturday October 18 2003, 11:53 pm:
The side that needs to be "down" has a small amount of metal in it, which is used to reflect the microwaves right back into the unpopped kernels. Many microwavable foods used metallized films to assist in cooking the food faster.

If the metallized layer is on the top, the popcorn will probalby never acutally pop, and you'll only damage the microwave, and possibly set the bag on fire.

Moop answered Saturday October 18 2003, 5:57 pm:
hmm, I'd assume that it would be face down in the microwave. It'd probably pop. You'll have to test that and get back to me though. Then I can pass on your information to the next one.

SMINT answered Saturday October 18 2003, 3:55 pm:
the bag will explode in the microwave, and the microwave is like "hey... I'm being pelted with popcorn!" and it explodes too, which makes you explode, which makes your house explode, which makes your street explode, which makes your town explode, which makes your county explode, which makes your state explode, which makes your country explode, which makes your continent explode, which makes the world explode, which makes the planets around it explode, which makes the solar system explode, which makes the universe explode!!!!!

So don't do it.
