I would like a pet

Question Posted Sunday September 28 2003, 3:19 pm

I would like to get some sort of animal as a pet. The only thing is that my dad is allergic to furry animals, and my family is very busy, so we couldn't give the pet 24/7 care that often. so, what kind of pet should I get?

-A fish (goldfish are boring . .. get a fighting fish, but don't make it fight anyone because that's bad.)
-A lizard
-A frog
-A parakeet

Hope I helped!

A cockroach! They're small, can fend for themselves, and they live a short time! And they have no hair. Just don't let them reproduce. That's when it gets nasty...

Fish are nice, don't require that much care, and are fun to watch

There are many good answers, but I have a really fun pet. A betta fish. They don't have to have their bowl cleaned terribly often. They eat just a little. They are fun to watch.
I have kept one up to three years. They come in various colors, and are relatively inexpensive. You can put them in just about any shaped bowl as long as it's not lead crystal. You cannot put two males in the same bowl or they will fight.
However, if you place two males beside one another they will "prance" like a peacock. They are loners.
Do not get the BETTA plant. It is guaranteed to kill either the plant or the fish or both. The pesticide isn't good for the fish. The fish has to have pelleted food to live. You can be set for about $10-20 or less depending on if you get a bowl from the thrift store. The food is about $5 but lasts a long time.

Well, my family is also quite a busy one. We have a dwarf african aquatic frog and 3 cats. The frog is the most low maintenence pet I have ever had. I can leave for weeks, come back and he'll still be alive. I don't knwo how easy it'd be to get one in your area though.

I have a pet rabbit, and she is AWESOME! I keep her outside in a hutch, because my mom is allergic to furry animals.

She is a holland lop, which IMHO is the cutsest breed ^_^

You need a low maintenance pet like a fish. If you're not going to be around for hours at a time and the animal will be left alone, DO NOT GET A CAT OR DOG.

Imagine if everyone you knew and loved left you alone with nothing to do and no idea when they would return? Animals need attention and love all of the time.

Also, be sure you're ready to make a long-term commitment to a pet. Cats and dogs can live as long as 20 years. Fish live shorter lives, as do smaller animals like hampsters and guinea pigs, but they are still a commitment of time, money and love for years to come.

Draak answered Thursday October 16 2003, 5:53 pm:
If your father is alleric to furry animals I would suggest looking up breeds of dogs or cats that don't shed. Most animals that shed are the cause of the alleric reaction because of the dander they produce. You might want to look into dogs like schnauzers, poodles, ecetera since they don't shed. The only problem with dogs that don't shed is that they have to be groomed regularly (i.e. shaved).

If you don't want furry at all you might want to look into reptiles or fish, but they aren't going to be lovable/cuddly pets. You might want to look up potbellied pigs, they have little fur and make great pets.

do you like snakes? theyre kind of expensive, but i think you only need to feed them their mice about once a week. and they are pretty independent, they dont really need a lot of care, just a cage cleaning and a feeding once a week or so.
but parents dont usually go for snakes, y'know?

A fish. Or a turtle. Or a bird (but I think birds require more attention). Or a duck. Or a mongoose. Or a snake.

The choices are endless. Just make sure you know how to take care of and that you DO take care of this pet. Visit a pet store or your local Wal-Mart if you want to see the choices in pets.

Turc answered Monday September 29 2003, 7:35 pm:
Take the fish from the person that got drunk and married it; it'll save them the trouble with all the lawyers and crap and give you a free pet. Not furry and significantly low-maintenance. Hurrah!
