Metal Mouth Nerd!

Question Posted Wednesday April 26 2006, 6:20 pm

I have had braces for about 8.5-9 months now and so far, I'm not liking it. When I look at myself in the mirror, I don't think of myself as beautiful anymore, because theres disgusting metal on my teeth. Having braces has lowered my self esteem twice as much as my self esteem was before I had them. I feel like a dork and sometimes I even regret getting them. I've tried telling my friends and family about this, but they've all had them and they say their little stories just to make me feel worse. Even some of the kids in school teased me about my braces before. Like one guy had a metal pen in his hand one day and he told me to put it in my mouth, because it would shock my mouth, because I have stupid braces. I hate my life with braces. I just want my old life back! Every single kid in my school everyday is getting their braces taken off. It's like a school epidemic. The more kids who don't have braces, the more upset I get. Is this normal or do I have issues?

I was proud to have braces because when I was in Jr High it was a status symbol. There were very few of us that had them. It meant that our parents had enough money to fix our teeth and really cared about our future appearance.

I look at some adults now that should have had them as kids, and I know they must be ashamed of the way their teeth look. I don't regret it at all, especially when I see the teeth that other people have.

When kids tease you, just laugh with them..or you could have a comeback.

"At least I will get them off someday, but you will still be ugly" or

"All this metal in my mouth is like a reciever,I can normally read the intelligent brain waves of others, but I'm not getting any signal standing next to you"

You don't have issues, but just relax--and don't forget to smile :-)

i understand how you feel but i promise you that it isnt that big of a deal. i have braces too. even if people tease you about them, just laugh along and be like "OH YEAH THATS RELE FUNNY ! I REALLY HATE THESE THINGS..BUT I REALLY HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE MAKE JOKES ABOUT THEM " and then you will start a conversation with them and maybe they wont tease you as much. Another thing you can think of is that maybe they make fun of you now, but later you'll have perfect straight teeth and they will be sorry they teased you hope i helpedd

i know its nottt fun to have braces---i have them right now that ive had on for a year and 2 monthes. most kids have or have had braces at some point, and so its perfectly normal to ahve braces/hate them to death...and its pretty gay if people make fun of you becuase chances are theyll prolly get braces at one point in their life..well maybe not but whatever depends on their teeth

but in the end youll be so happy you had braces, because just that year or 2..or maybe 3..not sure how long youll have them on...but anyways..just that short while is worth having a lifetime of straight teeth..but just rember when you get them off ALWAYS wear your retainer so you dont have to get braces again if your teeth move..trust me my sister didnt wear it and she had to get braces again eww. well you dont always have to wear it just for like 6 monthes-a year, but then like always at night for like, ever

but anywasy this is like rally long so yeah..i hope this helped!!

This is completely normal. I have braces too, and I agree that they can be so annoying! When I first got them, people used to make fun of me alot. This one girl even said, "Haha if you walked through a metal detector, it would go off." You know, people can be so stupid. The best advice I can give you is to act like it doesn't bother you. And you shouldn't let it bother you! The next time someone says something like that, just say, "Yeah, stupid, that shows how much you know." and walk away.

Another thing you could do is just ignore people completely. Sometimes I just look at people like they're crazy,a dn walk away. The less reaction you give them, the faster they'll get bored with it.

You know, it's hard having braces, and believe me, I know firsthand. You're not alone. And just think of how nice your teeth will look when you get your braces off! You'll have beautiful straight teeth and some of those people who were making fun of you will be getting braces! The majority of teens do end up having to get braces sooner or later. So all those kids who say, "Oh I'll NEVER need braces." They'll probably get them too later. Kids may be getting them off now, but more kids will get them on in around 9th or 10th grade.

Now braces are annoying, we've established that. And retainers too! But at least braces come in cool colors. Did you know that around the 80's you would have to wear head-gear or really ugly clearish-yellow braces?

So be confident about your braces! Who cares what people say, they're probably just jealous of you. At least you're going to have beautiful teeth when you get them off!

This is perfectly normal. Even though you may not realize it EVERYONE wants their braces off just as desperately as you do. I know that it's hard, because people in my school are getting them off also, and I still have mine. But, unfortunately, the truth is...there is absolutely nothing you can do. You have to wait until the orthodontist feels that your teeth are straight enough to remove the braces. I know this sounds tough, but do you really want to go through life with crooked teeth? Honestly, I think more people would make fun of you if you had crooked teeth than they do with your braces. Whenever you are feeling really down about having braces, just think of how pretty your smile will be when you get them off. Trust me, the end product is going to be rewarding. Good luck!

Braces.....like everyone hates them and there isn't much you can do about it. You can try to see if you can switch to invisaline Idk if you can do that but just see. Also think of it as when you get ypur braces off your teeth will be perfect. you can still be beautiful with braces, Just try not to let those other jerks get to you. Just try not to think negativley about it. this is normal so don't worry.
